In order to allow ever bigger container ships into Antwerp harbour, a deeper channel is to be dredged that will speed up erosion of the banks.
It is that loss of habitat that must be compensated for.

Simply, absolutly, absurd! I live in a Dutch Colony, and this is enimical to telling an American that we are going to demolish your home and give the land back to the Indians because 200 years ago it was part of a tribal homeland.
It goes counter to everything which makes up Dutch thinking. Only a EU Commission could think up somthing like this.

This is simply criminal; a crime against humanity. We live on the land and have a right to it. We are natural creatures, as natural as the dolphin or the spotted owl and our habitat must be protected too.

Followup, not a hijack, and feel free to pull -
but seeing how it has been in the nature of the Dutch to fight the sea for hundreds of years only to turn it over due to an external organizations surely has a parallel to us giving something we hold near and dear here in the US back to previous 'owners'

Flooding a "polder", as land enclosed by a dyke is known, "has always been an act of war" It is this time, too. The Dutch need to go to the barricades on this one.
