WASHINGTON Murder charges may be brought against some Marines for what may be the worst atrocity committed by U.S. military personnel in Iraq, a senior Pentagon official said Friday.

When the USA has a POTUS that effectively communicates that fact we will have a chance to win.
We will definitely lose if the Murthas of the world are taken seriously.
I or my kids should give our lives so leftist traitors can lose us another war?
Not a chance.
We have a POTUS right now who talks mush. He seems weak and indecisive. What's happened to him.
I don't want to give cart blanche to our troops to kill civilians. On the other hand there are mitigating circumstances that make this necessary or reasoned at times.
I agree with your aversion to turning things over to the likes of Murtha and the press.
I appreciate your post.
I could understand punishing these Marines if they decided to go find a group of Iraqis with the express purpose of executing them, but I don't think this is the case. I think there was some impetus that created the perception of hostile enemy action. Perhaps it was similar to the Amadou Diallo case.
The truth will come out, that is the difference between us and them.
Have the results of the investigation into who killed
and hung those contractors from that bridge come back?
I thought not.
If these men are guilty they will be punished, if they are innocent they will be proven so, but for a CONGRESSMAN to
prejudge them is just astounding.
Semper Fi.
Tet.
He's not a hot dog. And he's far from weak and indecisive on Iraq.
Now, instead of blaming this particular episode on Bush, why not let the Marine command handle it, as the President is doing?
I, and most people in uniform, were PROUD to hear the
Commander in Chief of our armed forces tell the enemy
to "BRING IT ON", etc.......and the President's backing
down in his press conference last night was very
sad, IMHO. My husband and I just recently watched
UNITED 93,and that was the EXACT, correct response
THEN,
and it STILL is.
How many of their civilian leaders who sat safely in Washington and approved that bombing strategy were tried for war crimes?
"None", you say?
How, then can Murtha call Marines who kill a few civilians (in an murderous environment where the enemy are civilians -- hiding among civilians) "murderers" and "war criminals"?
Put Murtha out there in the middle of the IEDs and RPGs -- and see if he shoots at civilians!
Agreed. No argument from me.
Did MacArthur kill civilians when his men were in country?
I don't want a President who justifies the killing of civilians if it is unnecessary.
Now, instead of blaming this particular episode on Bush, why not let the Marine command handle it, as the President is doing?
Agree with you on both counts.
It is ALWAYS necessary to WIN
Societies that fail to recognize this fact ALWAYS lose.
Well, the left wants us all to return to the 70s, bad time for the American people, high water mark for the press.
They:
-brought down a Presiden
-lost a war
-demoralized the country
-demonized the military
That's why they hyped Abu Ghrabib, tried to turn a boring story about a middle-aged bureaucrat into Watergate.
They will run with this story, but I hope they fall flat on their faces.
the problem with this case - its going to come down to "benefit of the doubt", the Marines killed 5 people in a taxi near a checkpoint, they likely thought it was a car bomb, got scared, and shot it to hell. it turns out it wasn't a car bomb, who gets the benefit of the doubt? they were probably taking fire from an apartment someplace, shot back, and women and children victims were found inside. again, who gets the benefit of the doubt? it depends on who is doing the investigation.
murder is murder. murder is a Marine walking into a school or a cafe someplace, not in the presence of enemy fire, and blowing away a bunch of people found there. or dragging non combatants out of their apartments, and shooting them in the back of the head. that's what I consider "murder" in a wartime context.
I'm glad you're here, and the men who are over there, are there.
They have honor. You, sir, do not.
So will the BBC, AP, CNN, NY Times, and the arabic version of Al-Jizzera.
Expect a 2 hour special on this on CNN this weekend with a story headline like:
US Military: A history of murder, meyhem, and crimes against humanity.
Any politician or entity who has a problem is just helping the enemy and should be dealt with accordingly.
let's not go overboard here, it does matter. mistakes, errors in judgement, in combat that result in civilian casualties are one thing. certainly if some Marine killed some innocent in cold blood, that's a totally different thing.
