How well-maintained are they? Are Iranian pilots any good? Do they have spare parts?

Good point. Besides, the Falcons may be outdated versions of the aircraft.

How many aircraft and how do they propose to get them to Iran?

The VENAF F16's are poorly maintained. They are at about 40% readiness.

The Iranians have the ability to get parts via circuitous means (they are still flying F14 TOMCATs). Apparently, VENAF is in negotiations to buy SU27's/30's.

We'll see how that goes.

Hehe against Isreali pilots and their own advanced avionics??? That would be a great pay per view show.

I imagine that they would use them for spare parts. The Iranians have quite a few old US planes.

Either way, those planes are no threat to us. I can't imagine an F-16 with 20 year old electronics would fare well against an F-22.

"How well-maintained are they? Are Iranian pilots any good? Do they have spare parts?"

Based on the experience of what the mullahs did to the F-14's bought by the Shah:
-poorly maintained
-poorly flown
-poorly spared.

Let them have the F-16s - they will be hangar queens in short order, and removed from our new Castro's mischief.

Not well maintained. We haven't provided upgrades for several generations. They don't have spares. Iran has better things to do with their money and better sources for weapons than buying them on the "used weapons" bazaar.

I trained Iranian pilots before the fall of the Shaw. Not good pilots.

Hugo's F-16's are based on 35-year old technology and are obsolete, not to mention barely functional due to a lack of spare parts...

As I recall, the last time the Iranians took over American weapons systems, nothing was operable after about 3 to 6 months.

At any rate, a more workable solution would be to take them out while they are on the ground in Venezuela and maybe the rest of their "air force" while we are at it.

Do they have spare parts?

If they don't it will be like the F14s and they will eventually strip one plane to keep others flying. The only thing different is that there are more F16s and the process should be longer.

Even if they were well-maintained, and Iran had some decent pilots, we never sell military items that are as capable as ours in overall abilities. Factor in upgrades to our systems and you can pretty much assume that one of our lesser pilots would have a 95% chance of trashing one of their best pilots in combat.

Wow, that rings a bell. Haven't we read in past years how horrible the Iranians were against Saddam? Or was it the other way around?

No. & No.

We sold stuff to the Iraqis during the Iran/Iraq war because we (correctly) were worried about the Islamists. I doubt that Iraq was able to maintain that stuff long enough to do the Iranians any good now, or else they'd have used the same stuff against us in '03.
