I really don't understand this. I never heard of political discrimination so hopefully later their will be more news on this. I can't believe another Republican is in trouble. I actually hope that due to my ignorance that I just don't know what the heck this is and maybe this is not as bad as it seems to be.

Fletcher pardoned all administration officials except himself.
Gov. Fletcher has been waiting for this showdown, mano a mano.

Well, it appears that the link doesn't work today though it was fine earlier this week. The crux of the story was that being a FOB guaranteed a well paying state job, even when a need didn't exist, and there was no position available. His rewarding of 60* friends into high-paying (for NM) jobs that didn't exist or were filled by a FOB at a salary two to three times authorized you think would logically be big news. But not here where the MSM reporters are chummy with bill and some actually went campaigning for him first time around. Anyway, check back later and the link may be working. (*BTW, that's in addition to the 450+ jobs he's authorized to fill with FOBs)

No need to explain this in layman's terms, or even legal terms.
Remember, it's not the evidence, it's the seriousness of the charge.
So don't worry your pretty head, just sit back and wait for the public hanging in the Kentucky Derby stadium infield.

Many in the GOP will be out of a job in November, they forgot how to fight back; and they forgot their base. And that's the name of that tune!
It's a two-pronged self-inflicted pitchfork to the foot. When it comes to political combat, the Dems go for it like streetfighters. They fight to win. They fight like rabid dogs. They do not hold back, they do not pull their punches, and the only "rule" they observe is "will this help me win, or not?"
Our boys, on the other hand, steeped in the culture of the countryclub, step into the ring with Robert's Rules of Order under one arm, and The Marquis of Queensbury Rules under the other. And they leave on a gurney, mumbling something about "get the number of that truck!"
The other prong of the pitchfork is even bloodier. They treat their base like a classical abused wife, while going "Hey, babe!" to every Democrat constituency they encounter. The basic reality eludes them: The Democrat factions will gladly accept the handouts proffered -- and then vote Democrat.
The whole scene is mind-boggling. Alienating their own voters, while paying off the other party's hardcore constituents. Beyond madness.
Anyone who hasn't read Peggy Noonan's column today... should!

Just remember a good prosecutor can indict a ham sandwich. Fletcher has known for a long time he would be indicted. It's a ridiculous witch hunt. Some underlings did get rids of some entrenched Democrats in some state agencies, mostly the transportation department. KY state government has been the Democratic employment agency for decades. Fletcher is the first GOP governor since 1971, and was only elected because the previous Gov had a sex scandal.
For some reason Kentuckians are rock ribbed Republicans when voting for President, Senator, and Congress, but they like Democrat governors. And Republicans have run some pretty lame candidates in the past. Fletcher was the best one in years. I refuse to believe he had anything to do with any organized effort to fire state employees just because they were Democrats. He might have had some idiot underlings that did it in a hamhanded way and left a paper trail. The problem is that 99% of state employees are Democrats, so if you fire any serious number of them you are going to open yourself up to charges of political discrimination. The Democrat-controlled legislature wrote that goofy political discrimination law just so they could do this is a Republican ever won the governorship again.

Oh yeah, and Grady Stumbo is a scumbag. One of the stunts he pulled was having TV stations miraculously show up with cameras while he staged "raids" on the offices of Fletcher's aides. In one of them people were shown carrying out dozens of "boxes of documents." All the boxes were empty and were planted by Stumbo. The gullible Kentucky media bought it hook, line, and sinker.

Thank you very much for the explanation. I feel so sorry for elected officials sometimes because the dems and media are always finding some baloney to hang a person on even if it is not even a crime or the person did not even do it or a subordinate was involved and makes it looks like the Republican was involved. It is the same with DeLay he is getting hung to dry because of some perception and I know sometimes perception is often reality but it does not seem to be in these cases. I sometime feel like our Republicans need hazardous duty pay. lol.

You are correct that other states talk about political battles. In Kentucky it is meant literally not figuratively. My particular favorite is the saga of the Hawes family of Breathitt County.

Do I read that to mean that in Kentucky it is illegal for a Governor to say... hire people in his own office that support his administration? What sort of silly madness is this?
It's simple -- Democrats don't like it when Republicans try to blur the distinction between the two parties.
Republicans are supposed to be the ones who employ the Patronage System within the Party, i.e., ensure that only good 'ol boys get to make it to/through the primaries.
Democrats, on the other hand, are not supposed to do that. Their role is to employ the Patronage System after they get into office, using it to populate the various offices with like-minded effendi.
