President Ahmadinejad's letter to President Bush, widely interpreted as a peaceful overture, is in fact a declaration of war. The key sentence in the letter is the closing salutation. In an eight-page text of the letter being circulated by the Council on Foreign Relations, it is left untranslated and rendered as "Vasalam Ala Man Ataba'al hoda." What this means is "Peace only unto those who follow the true path."
It is a phrase with historical significance in Islam, for, according to Islamic tradition, in year six of the Hejira - the late 620s - the prophet Mohammad sent letters to the Byzantine emperor and the Sassanid emperor telling them to convert to the true faith of Islam or be conquered. The letters included the same phrase that President Ahmadinejad used to conclude his letter to Mr. Bush. For Mohammad, the letters were a prelude to a Muslim offensive, a war launched for the purpose of imposing Islamic rule over infidels.

Good point.
"Isn't it Auri?"
Nah, Ori. Checked the Stargate site :p
No I'd say that is probably pretty accurate.
There are MANY Iranian born Jews in Los Angeles and New York who are now citizens that be trusted with such matters of translating without treason or deceit.
There are also a handful of Iranian Christians that are converts from Islam who could do an even better job.
I echo your sentiments 100%....
This should not be thought of as something we would be willing to die for; are we willing to kill for it?
Remember two/three years ago articles on FR about Jewish translaters not hired by the fedgov? Jews who knew Arabic? I think the reasoning (sic) was that the Arab/Muslim translators wouldn't get along with them.
I was sick when I read that. I think it's FUBAR. Too much poison/crap/treason in the gov.
Gosh...thanks for pinging me to this thread...I hadn't seen it...
I sure am glad you got jveritas to give his interpretation...I am getting kind of paranoid lately about who to trust...
I am amazed at how little the "Iran problem" is getting attention around here...scary.
President says his letter to President Bush was invitation to Islam

Just posted, FYI.
Second, if the President does what I think he'll do, we will see a massive air campaign. Any Iranians who try to come in after you guys will be tank-plinked straight to Hell.
Trust me, none of us are calling for war lightly. This letter appears to be a declaration of a new phase of jihad, declared by an unstable man with nukes. We cannot afford to take it lightly for any reason, not even to save you brave men and women from making more sacrifices.
I remember seeing a documentary about the first week after September 11th, and a bunch of people arguing in Central Park about whether we sparked the attack and going after the terrorists would be exactly the worst thing to do. This conversation was had at a time when we thought we might have 20,000 casualties. Some people are just idiots.
Thanks
Pretty good guess.
Thanks for posting the link. Very good site. In addition I recommend www.Iranfocus.com in case you or others havent seen it.
For some reason, the govt used to resist hiring Jewish or Israeli-born Arabic or Farsi translators, even though they would be excellent and a lot more trustworthy than the Muslims. I don't know if this is still policy, but it was at one time.
the iran leadership is nuts! they already are shelling northern iraq where the PKK operate on this side of the fence.
Turkey is sabre rattling too so they are playing everyone off of each other as they intend to send troops up here as well.
p.s - thanks... For the best information... go to www.kurdishmedia.com they provide clues and insight under their news section. gives insight to the tensions..accurate.
Yes, I think he'll be well remembered. Actually, one of the things that concerns me is that this message may be a personal call to Bush, that is, that the Iranian nutcase has planned some attack on him personally.
The Iranians know that the Dems and the left support them and support Islamist terrorism and anti-Semitism, so possibly they feel that with Bush out of the way, the country would just roll over for them. I hope the Secret Service is on high alert.
Wow, good point! Sheesh...
On TV The Unit introduced the diplomatic term BOHICA meaning bend over here it comes again. The Mahmoud Ahmadinejad letter recalls Hitlers BOHICA tactics in confronting Western nations.
In May 1933 Hitler said, War is utter madness and will cause collapse of present social and political order. In October 1933 he left the Disarmament Conference and League of Nations. In March 1934 Hitler repudiated Versailles military restrictions, and decreed universal military service. In May 1935 he said the very idea of war was senseless, useless, horrible, and made thirteen specific proposals for peace. The Times of London welcomed these words as reasonable, straightforward, and comprehensive. In March 1936 Hitler militarily occupied the Rhineland, denounced the Locarno Treaty, and handed new peace proposals to Western ambassadors. In May 1937 Chamberlains German ambassador questioned whether German power supported illegitimate aims. In March 1938 Hitler crushed the Austrian government accomplishing a bloodless transformation from country to German district. In May 1938 Hitler informed the Czech envoy he had no aggressive intentions. In September 1938 Chamberlain and Daladier acceded to Hitler by forcing Czechoslovakia to cede Sudetenland. Hitler stated this was his last territorial demand, and gave Chamberlain a written declaration for peace in our time. In March 1939 Czechoslovakia ceased to exist, when the remainder came under Hitlers benevolent protection. As the Nazis and Soviets dismembered Poland, Hitler proffered real peace in Europe to France and Britain, who too late recognized the pattern of events, and their posture in prior negotiations.
Remember the Coptic family that was murdered in Jersey City, NJ?
Their cousin was the translator for the Lynne Stewart (Sheik Rahman's lawyer) trial.
Murder happened during the trial.
