Tancredo Rips Government’s Spying of Minutemen

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressmen Tom Tancredo (R-CO) decried a recently-disclosed U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) practice of tipping off the Mexican military to the location of Minutemen volunteers. According to a story in this morning’s Inland Daily Bulletin, CBP notifies the Mexican government of when and where the Minutemen are planning to monitor the border and if violence is used by the Minutemen against illegal aliens. There has not been one verified instance of Minutemen volunteers using violence against illegal aliens.

“The Mexican military doesn’t exactly have a ‘good government’ reputation. The Border Patrol has documented more than two hundred incursions into the U.S by the Mexican military, and Texas sheriffs even apprehended Mexican government vehicles that were used to ferry drug runners across the border. By tipping off Mexico’s military to the Minutemen’s location, the U.S. government is asking for trouble,” said Tancredo.

“Heavily-armed military officials stationed only yards from civilians are at least intimidating. I can only surmise that the Border Patrol bureaucrats’ spying is meant to have a chilling effect on the Minutemen’s recruitment of more volunteers,” said Tancredo.

“The Minutemen haven’t been accused of breaking the law. Quite the contrary—they have gone out of their way to aid law enforcement and ensure the safety of our border. The U.S. government has no grounds upon which to stifle the Minutemen’s constitutional right to organize,” Tancredo concluded. “I want to know the legal basis for CBP informing a foreign government of the activities of private citizens who are obeying the law.”

Interesting question, that...

If the President saw this and was in support of enforcing our borders, he would immediately order the powers that be to knock it off.

I guess that won't be happening any time soon.

If This is true, President Bush should not wonder why his approval ratings are falling.

What's worse is they had a minuteman from Illinois on the local radio show saying that "the show will drop tomorrow." Something will show up in the newspapers tomorrow apprently. She said the government is spying on the minutemen, not the border patrol since the only operate on border states, and sending the information to Mexico. She said the reporting tomorrow will tell of how the government told the government of Mexico how there are "about 50 minutemen members in the Illinois chapter with little sway over local politicians."

This is going to get big, I think. Props to the small mom-and-pop newspaper in Ontario, California which found this information (don't know if it was leaked or what.)

If Bush wasn't already toast, he will be if this story is true!

This President is now officially a FAILURE should this story be verified.

The Republican Party is in the toaster and getting warmer heading toward full toasting.

Butter and jelly anyone?

Agreed. The actions of this administration leave me dumbfounded. It is as though they want to loose the House in 06. It reminds me of his dad looking at his debate with Clinton where he stares down at his watch. The very second Bush41 reneged on the "read my lips, no new taxes" I knew he wasn't a true conservative. Bush's closest adviser is his wife, she is with him every night. I really don't know where she stands on many social issues but it is easy to see in the past where "nagging" wives have influenced their President husbands. I am not saying it in this case. However, someone with Coolidge's understanding of the Constitution would have done everything in their power to get rid, for example, the wholly unconstitutional Dept of Education. Anyone who cherishes Liberty and love of small government would never support unwieldy bureaucracies. To truly have the citizens educated we must separate State and school. Back on topic. I have tried and tried to understand why Bush is neglecting his base. I can only conclude he is either not truly a conservative or someone close is influencing him to be more socialist. Any way, I found this latest revelation, if true, to be absolutely disgusting.

I just can't hardly believe this. I mean, I know it is true, but it is so disappointing. How our government could treat Patriots this way is beyond me. The Republicans better put a stop to it.

Nice find. The Patriot Act is only gonna be used on "turrurists". Of course, just who's a terrorist is entirely subjective.
