While Minuteman civilian patrols are keeping an eye out for illegal border crossers, the U.S. Border Patrol is keeping an eye out for Minutemen -- and telling the Mexican government where they are. According to three documents on the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Relations Web site, the U.S. Border Patrol is to notify the Mexican government as to the location of Minutemen and other civilian border patrol groups when they participate in apprehending illegal immigrants -- and if and when violence is used against border crossers.
A U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman confirmed the notification process, describing it as a standard procedure meant to reassure the Mexican government that migrants' rights are being observed.
"It's not a secret where the Minuteman volunteers are going to be," Mario Martinez said Monday.
"This ... simply makes two basic statements -- that we will not allow any lawlessness of any type, and that if an alien is encountered by a Minuteman or arrested by the Minuteman, then we will allow that government to interview the person."
Minuteman members were not so sanguine about the arrangement, however, saying that reporting their location to Mexican officials nullifies their effectiveness along the border and could endanger their lives.
"Now we know why it seemed like Mexican officials knew where we were all the time," said Chris Simcox, founder of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps. "It's unbelievable that our own government agency is sending intelligence to another country. They are sending intelligence to a nation where corruption runs rampant, and that could be getting into the hands of criminal cartels.
"They just basically endangered the lives of American people."

Good questions. I haven't been following the Mexican elections in the news so I'm not sure what's happening there in any detail. Regarding oil supplies, oil is easily shipped from one country to another so it trades in a world market and there is no way to cut off supplies to any one country except to produce less. That would hurt Mexico so Mexico probably won't cut their production. If they try to sell oil to another country (e.g. France, Germany, Japan, S. Korea) instead of to us, we can just buy the oil immediately from that third country and have the 3rd country's tanker stop in Houston or Los Angeles and unload the oil on its way home.
The 24th Amendment, ratified in 1964, outlawed the use of this tax (or any other tax) as a pre-condition in voting in Federal elections. The 1966 Supreme Court case Harper v. Virginia Board of Elections extended this explicit enactment as a matter of judicial interpretation of a more general provision, ruling that the imposition of a poll tax in state elections violated the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution. (This is one of several quizzical rulings that rely on the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment rather than the more direct provision of the 15th.)
I sispect the Arizona law will be similarly challenged in Court.

Once I started reading about it, Carolyn, after the media started making noise about it, I came to understand that it's a problem for a lot of you in border states.
What I don't get is why there are hardly any politicians, on either side of the aisle, who are willing to tackle the problem.
And what I absolutely condemn are those freepers who say this will make them vote third party. That's the ticket - vote for someone who has no intention or ability to help with a problem. LOL

Yes I am. Because if they have entered this country illegally then they are either a) not paying taxes , b) using false identification to obtain employment or services, or c) are engaged in some form of criminal activity.
Now if you asked do I believe there are people here illegally who have good intentions and would like to stay legally I would answer yes. But to get down to that group and "expel" the others you first have to seal the border and then start deporting those that come in contact with the law.AWB

Prop 200 was very carefully written and even with McCain coming out against it all over the state, it passed with a large majority. I understand Colorado is working on getting their own proposition on the ballot based on our initiative.
Some illegal aliens pay taxes - some go to school so they don't have jobs or have to pay taxes.
