Moussaoui Gets Life in Prison (No Death Penalty for the Ranting Jihadist Looney Tune)

A federal jury decided Wednesday al-Qaida conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui deserves life in prison for his role in the deadliest terrorist attack in U.S. history, on Sept. 11, 2001.

On the seventh day of deliberation, the jury of nine men and three women informed Judge Leonie Brinkema that it had reached a decision. The verdict was announced at 4:30 p.m. EDT.

Moussaoui, a 37-year-old Frenchman of Moroccan descent, is the only person charged in this country in connection with the suicide jetliner hijackings that killed nearly 3,000 people at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a Pennsylvania field.

The verdict came after four years of legal maneuvering and a six-week trial that put jurors on an emotional roller coaster.

The panel of northern Virginia residents was shown gruesome never- before-released images of the carnage that day, heard the first public playing of the cockpit recorder from United Flight 93 whose passengers tried to retake the jet over Pennsylvania, and watched and listened as dozens of victims and relatives described the horrors and losses they had endured.

The nine men and three women deliberated about 40 hours. They had found Moussaoui eligible for execution after more than 16 hours of deliberations in late March and early April.

Although he was in jail on immigration violations on Sept. 11, the jury ruled that lies he told federal agents the month before the attacks kept the government from identifying and stopping some of the hijackers.

How long before American civilians are taken hostage and executed in an attempt to get him freed?

"He wanted to die. To become a martyr. The worse possible punishment for him is to be forgotten."

You nailed it. This is much worse for him than death. And he is condemned regardless.

I wonder if some local prosecuter can bring him up on state charges where he will be more likely to get fried?

he clapped and shouted "America! You lost!" upon leaving the courtroom

We'll see if he still thinks we're the losers after he gets to be Big Bubba's ho in stir.

How long do you think he will live in jail...overnight maybe!

If he goes to Supermax in Florence, Colorado he will live for a very long time.

The link describes the prison environment. Ignore all the ranting and raving from the NAACP and its advocates. The type of punishment inflicted by confinement at Supermax has been found to be constitutional.

This is not justice. The man was proven to conspire to an act of mass murder. The man was proven to actually abet the act. The reason for justice is not revenge or deterrence, but to reinforce the idea that justice is central to civilization -- we the people always reminded that punishment follows crime.

The crime and its perpretator are placed opposite the victims. The life of the proven perp should not be highlighted as more valuable than those of the victims merely because the judgement takes place under civilized rules and the victims were "judged" outside of the law.

When there are a million loopholes to frustrate justice, it calls more attention to a Byzantine process than to justice itself.

"He is not going to be among the general prison population. Unless a patriotic guard decides to off him I think this guy will die of old age in prison."

Exactly. For a piece of Islamofascist scum like him, he'll think he has died and gone to Allah with 72 virgins on a magic carpet. Three squares a day, cable TV, and the best medical care this country has to offer, thanks to hard-working US taxpayers he'd like to see die in future Islamofascist terror attacks.

These jurors must have said that they could put someone to death, in the right circumstances.

Why this guy did not meet the standard, I don't know.

I suspect some juror were being less than honest when they said they could put someone to death.

Roger your entire transmission. You speak the truth. The United States is turning into France. We are killing ourselves and our life style one day at a time. By the time these fools wake up to that fact, they are going to be dead. DEAD! And then folks, it is too freaking late.

I hope the jurors feel a tinge of guilt when the now inevitable Middle East kidnappings, complete with demands for Moussaoui's release, and ensuing beheadings kick in.

"We can't even execute someone like this?"

For maximum punishment rotting in jail is the way to go. Maybe to send a message execution would be better, but it would make him a martyr.

Pffft ... he's a muslim, which means he'll be received as a hero and protected by the muslim population in whatever prison he goes to.

The jury screwed up big time.
