Just saw United 93-- I thought it was excellent. It evolves in real-time and its cuts back and forth between the Air Traffic controllers, the Military room, and the plane.
It was somewhat shocking to watch the level of confusion in terms of what was going on, but when you see what information that they were dealing with, it makes sense.
The hijackers to me came across more as fanatical than evil, and they were not turban-wearing obvious characters, they were cleaned up and I ride on planes with people like them on every flight I take.
In the movie, they are carrying out the plans of others and are obsessive in their task. We are not fighting an enemy that is likely to be reasoned with.
There is one character that I'm glad they included- he has a European *maybe French* accent and he makes a number of comments along the lines of "If we do what they say, they'll spare our lives"-- typical appeasement mentality.
Thanks to this group of heroes, many thousands of lives may have been spared and we kept the Islamic nuts from claiming the Capitol or White House as a prize.
I give in 9.5/10!
I demanded that our 14-year old daughter go with us. She thought it would be a boring documentary but was very moved by it. Just talk a lot about it afterward. I reminded her that Allah is NOT translated as "God". That pi$$ed me off.
And yet there are too many in this country who are undermining all Bush et al try do to keep the murderers out and impotent. That's what scares me even more.
Well, I'll go if you will too - I mean it's time for "let's roll"!
Hey CCC,
We got back a couple of hours ago. The theater in PH was lightly attended, but at the end, it was utterly silent. The Lad and I sat there until almost until the end of the credits.
When AA11 disappeared from the radar scope, my breath caught in my throat. When the second tower was hit, it had such immediacy.
Toward the end, he actually reached for my hand and held it. !4 y/o's don't do that very often.
He didn't eat but half of his M&Ms. I have a full bag of popcorn left.
When we got home, we sat and talked about 9-11 for about half an hour. On the way home, I told him he was a brave and courageous boy, and that I respected him for going with me.
I wish that everyone in the country - heck, as many people as possible overseas as well - would see this.
You claim that the filmmakers would place a "strong gay couple" as the backbone of this film are insulting and you should be ashamed of yourself. I personally know the man who directed this film. He does not support the war in Iraq. He is not even American, yet he realized the sacrifice these people made and honored them in an honest and unflinching way. Leave your partisan bickery at home or in the depths of your stomach to rot because on September 11th, there were no parties. You are casting a dark shadow on the memory of Flight 93.
Go to Tony Snow's website www.tonysnow.com and you will find references to the report there.
It's about an special prosecutor who investigated Clinton admin personnel - Cisneros. Kerry and a couple others tried to keep it from being released by sneaking an amendment onto an appropriations bill - thinking Bush would not dare veto it. However, Tony got ahold of the story and blew his cookies over it - and the amendment was withdrawn in committee.
The dems had stalled it from being completed by HILLARY'S LAWYERS - and they finally managed to have over 400 pages redacted (blacked out) - and NOT ONE REPUBLICAN HAS THE GUTS to ask to see the report - the un-redacted version - and then it could be released to the public in the un-redacted version. Everybody is too afraid to release it - because it would CRUSH AND CRUMBLE the Clinton cabal.
Tony commented several times that someone in the know - who had seen portions of the report - told Tony that it was really bad stuff about the Clintons. And .. that explains why Hillary's lawyers spent so much getting portions of over 400 pages blacked out.
My personal opinion is that the repubs don't want it released right now .. because they believe Hillary will run for the WH in 2008 - and they would rather run against her - foolishly believing she cannot win. I think this is a very dangerous plan .. a better plan would be to destroy the dem party by releasing the report and letting the chips fall where they may.
I'm hoping that now that Tony Snow is at the WH - he will be able to put a little more pressure on whoever - and the report will be released. The drive-by will try to hide it - but when it's posted on the internet - there will be no way they can deny it exists.
I don't have any idea what they flew over - I just remember it was one of the family members who made that comment during an interview - evidently her family member told her that was what they were waiting for.
Yep - I agree. That's why we cannot allow them to regain power - not now - not with their present leadership.
Yeah, I heard there were only a little less than 1200 theaters in the initial showing. Most releases are about 3 times as big. I'm surprised.
Thank-you.....that's encouraging!
Well written!
..but don't fault him for giving an account of what's in a movie.
Many parents rely on Focus's reviews...
Having said this, I doubt he is panning the movie because of this.---He is presenting facts so you can make the choice.
He is honest... across the board... in presenting the content of movies reviewed.
I understand completely. I, too, was shocked that the Focus on the Family reviewer said that the language was inappropriate. What in the world did he expect???
I'm glad to hear about your reaction.
Anger, I think, is very appropriate.
In WW2, nobody disputed that we were at war, that it would be a long and bloody war, and that peace would only come with the complete destruction of the other side
She doesn't want to face it.
Because if she faced it, she could not evade the idea that we are at war with Islam. The idea, and it's implications, require a maturity that many people do not have. They prefer not to have to think about it. It frightens them
"No one would argue with me."
Hoorah.
We fight them over there or we fight them here.
And the fellas at GITMO say the prisoners are some of the real bad guys on earth, so let them stay as long as we want.
