You claim that the filmmakers would place a "strong gay couple" as the backbone of this film are insulting and you should be ashamed of yourself. I personally know the man who directed this film. He does not support the war in Iraq. He is not even American, yet he realized the sacrifice these people made and honored them in an honest and unflinching way. Leave your partisan bickery at home or in the depths of your stomach to rot because on September 11th, there were no parties. You are casting a dark shadow on the memory of Flight 93.

Welcome to Free Republic. I've been reading your posts and I like your style.

If I understand your earlier post correctly, you're roughly 22 years of age? If so, all I can say is: WOW. In any case, I hope you'll stick around and post some more. You're well on your way to becoming an "A" list poster at Free Republic.

Not a bad day's work for a newbie.

:-)

Whoa Hoss. Whatever Greenglass's political leanings, from what I've read here, he did a bangup job on this film and my hat is off to him.

My point is that when it comes to awards (and I'm talking Golden Globes, Academy), Hollywood is obviously picking films with their own political leanings to win them. For instance, the people I've known who've seen Brokeback Mountain said it was OK, but not anything extraordinary in filmmaking. Yet it was gushed over at the Golden Globes, award wise and in the running at the Academy Awards.

There was a movie issued and I can't remember its name after 9/11 where the villians were changed from Muslim terrorists to ultra right wing radicals. It was based on a Tom Clancy book.

In an industry of uber politically correct writers, actors, directors and all, Greenglass is a brave rarity.

Yet I will be surprised - pleasantly, mind you - if he and his film are honored for more than just one of the minor (for lack of a better word) awards.

Why not?

That poster was referring to Hollywood and the awards shows, not the director.

I hope so also; however, I'm too pessimistic about Hollywood. I doubt they'd give any recognition to any film that (1) didn't change the Muslim terrorists to Nazi's, and (2) didn't have a "strong, committed loving and persecuted" gay male couple as the heroes.

I don't believe that 3cats was talking about the filmmakers. I believe she was talking about Hollyweird. So don't be offended. I too believe that having a "strong gay couple" would have been very offensive. But I am thankful that the director was wise enough to leave Hollywood values out of the movie.

I agree with 3cats. We can only hope that the media and the movie industry would keep more of their offensive ideology out of the movies. I applaud your friend Mr. Paul Greengrass for his ability to accomplish this so well.

As for the deserved recognition for the movie 3cats mentioned -- the media has already started their attempt to call this movie a failure. Take a look a box office mojo and you can see for yourself. Brokeback Mountain gets numbers like this and its an over the top hit. A decent movie made on a small budget without the massive free advertising of Brokeback and after three days they are all ready to call it a flop.

Well, I think they are wrong, but I guess that is just the media doing what it loves to do.

Thank you for the wonderful information in your other posts and welcome to Free Republic.
