Bush: Massive deportation of migrants won't work

By Tabassum Zakaria

IRVINE, California (Reuters) - President George W. Bush said on Monday he doubted a "massive deportation" of foreigners living illegally in the United States would solve the country's immigration woes, as he tried to revive prospects for an election-year agreement in the divided U.S. Congress.

Senators returned to Washington on Monday from a two-week recess after Democrats and Republicans were unable to reach a compromise on what to do about an estimated 11.5 million to 12 million illegal immigrants living in the United States.

The State of Georgia doesn't think deportation is necessary. Follow Georgia's example, and watch them deport themselves.

We are not calling for massive deportation Mr. Bush. How can he miss this point? Border control now, Stop the incentives for them to come here. Fine the employers. Its simple, but he is stuck and only we can move him or else we will lose big.

I hope the republican party is reconciled to losing both houses of congress and the White House if this 'it won't work so we're not going to do a thing about illegals' stuff continues. It's called political suicide. You'd think a few politicians besides Tom Tancredo and George Allen would have noticed which way the wind's blowing.

I have only been here a few days, trying to be a moderate in this discussion.

The only answers I see from everyone here is to lock everyone up and build walls around the U.S.

I really thought we might have better ideas from this group, but as I can see now... we need to by into resolving this problem by force and by isolationism or we will be the enemy.

I am not a liberal on this subject, I simply believe that building walls and locking up anyone who is or deals incorrectly with illegal aliens is not going to work.

We have spent trillions on trying to keep drugs out of this country and we have only managed to move the problem around and around and around, not stop it.

I will say no more because I already feel the heat and anger coming at me, but IMHO what you advocate here in this post TLI, will not work.

It might work for cockroaches and rattlesnakes, but not for freedom seeking, poor people....these people are hungry and want to be free at whatever cost...

Please, I am not a troll, I just don't take your position..
that's simply it...

“I tell you the truth, anyone who sneaks over the wall of a sheepfold, rather than going through the gate, must surely be a thief and a robber![1] John 10:1

Then he said to them, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's." Matt. 22:21

If a thief is caught breaking in and is struck so that he dies, the defender is not guilty of bloodshed; Exodus 22:2:

Acquitting the guilty and condemning the innocent— the LORD detests them both. Proverbs 17:15

Dane posted a photo of Jews being shipped to concentration camps in boxcars.

He thinks that that is the moral equivalent of deporting illegal immigrants to their home countries.

He has a somewhat twisted soul.

Well lets see how many felonies those illegal invaders have committed...

42 US Code 408 Whoever
(B) with intent to deceive, falsely represents a number to be the social security account number assigned by the Commissioner of Social Security to him or to another person, when in fact such number is not the social security account number assigned by the Commissioner of Social Security to him or to such other person; or
(C) knowingly alters a social security card issued by the Commissioner of Social Security, buys or sells a card that is, or purports to be, a card so issued, counterfeits a social security card, or possesses a social security card or counterfeit social security card with intent to sell or alter it; or
shall be guilty of a felony and upon conviction thereof shall be fined under title 18 or imprisoned for not more than five years, or both.

Social Security Fraud, check.

26 US Code 7201
Any person who willfully attempts in any manner to evade or defeat any tax imposed by this title or the payment thereof shall, in addition to other penalties provided by law, be guilty of a felony and, upon conviction thereof, shall be fined not more than $100,000 ($500,000 in the case of a corporation), or imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both, together with the costs of prosecution.

Federal income tax evasion, check #2

50 US Code 451
(f) Penalties Any person, or any officer of any person as defined in this section, who willfully fails or refuses to carry out any duty imposed upon him by subsection (b) of this section shall be guilty of a felony and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by imprisonment for not more than three years, or by a fine of not more than $50,000, or by both such imprisonment and fine.

Failure to register with Selective Service, check #3

So how many free felonies do US Citizens get? If we were to do what most of those illegal invaders do we'd get up to 13 year in federal prison, lose our right to vote and keep arms and plus face a huge fine.

I don't think Mexico can refuse re-entry to its own citizens.

Yes, it can. As a matter of fact, such alternative has already been discussed by Mexican officials in case a massive deportation campaign starts.

There are thousands of deportable aliens in the US who have committed aggravated felonies and will never qualify for a green card.

The US Supreme Court has already decided that such aliens must be released into US and given work permits. If the home country refuses to take an alien, the alien must be paroled as a de facto legal immigrant.

Ya just sorta gotta pull on the asbestos jammies, and get on with it. The immigration threads are usually pretty hot, anyway.

FWIW, seems to me that the Prez is right when he observes that getting 12 million people to leave just isn't in the cards. What FReepers tend to neglect/forget about is the family context -- lots, probably most families with illegals also have closely related citizens living with them. Much heat is generated over this, but the fact remains that the political will to deport (say) the illegal parents of an American citizen anchor baby simply does not exist.

BUT, I have to disagree with the point of view you expressed last week. Seems to me that we have to start first with border security, and a fence is an essential component of that. Once we have the stampede of illegal migration under control, we can more calmly debate what to do about the folks already here.

I simply believe that building walls and locking up anyone who is or deals incorrectly with illegal aliens is not going to work.

Well, first of all, you grossly simplify the debate, and second, once you take away that simplification, you're wrong.

It might work for cockroaches and rattlesnakes, but not for freedom seeking, poor people....these people are hungry and want to be free at whatever cost...

Sorry, but immigration laws are an expression of soverignty, which is vitally important to many on this forum. Tell you what - why don't you house a dozen or so of these poor, oppressed people in your house for a year and then get back to us.

If you disagree with the prevailing view, is it the standard answer to call them a "troll" or ignore them?

No, that is not what a troll is.

Trolls are libs, Dims, whacked out lefties that join Free Republic just so they can post something that is obviously meant to disrupt. The normal troll will join and then make the post the same day they join. Pretty easy to pick them out and they are Zotted right away.

Then again, some trolls join with the intention of waiting a while to post, but just cannot help themselves and procede to post within a few days of joining.

The rare exception is the troll that has been here for months. They are wily and sneaky but eventually will be picked out.

A country that cannot and/or will not secure its borders will soon cease being a country. It's that simple and that important.

If this amnesty goes through, you can kiss America good-bye.

Yes, it can. As a matter of fact, such alternative has already been discussed by Mexican officials in case a massive deportation campaign starts.

Well, if they want to try that, if they came here illegally, we can ship 'em back illegally if Mexico doesn't cooperate.

There are thousands of deportable aliens in the US who have committed aggravated felonies and will never qualify for a green card. The US Supreme Court has already decided that such aliens must be released into US and given work permits. If the home country refuses to take an alien, the alien must be paroled as a de facto legal immigrant.

And those are an exception of thousands in a population of millions. Sorry, but we aren't gonna hold back the process because of exceptions. That is an obstruction method.

Dane is trivializing the Jewish experience - this is disgusting.

Overall, he/she sounds like a Bush spokesperson. Has Bush has said or done that he has not adored?

Uh no, it is recent history(massive deportation of European Jews during WWII).

The Jews were citizens of their own countries, Dane. The illegals are not citizens here and are not legally supposed to be here as of either their entry or overstay of a visa.

But the likes of you never is willing to acknowledge that key difference.

So how do you deport 12M illegals (per previous post) and not have photos like what Dane posted not appear.

Every liberal journalist will flood the world with what you so want to not compare deportation to.

Come on, wake up... deportation is a no win situation when it comes to a politician.

Who is going to want to see their legacy be likened to Nazi Germany for Gawd's sake...

Someone with PR 101 could figure that out... so walk lightly when you throw that "ignorant" term around

I hope someone with some PR sense can fill you in on what happens when you round up and deport millions of illegals...the process may be simple... but the pictures live forever.....

Crystal Night... it may not be... let's call it ...ummmm....Cockroach stampede.. or whatever....

Bush, the Republican Congress, and the rest of the politicians in Washington are completely out of touch with the people. I am fed up with them, and after reading the posts on FR (including some directed to me) I realize that MANY people, including the Republican base and Middle America, are as fed up as I am--even moreso.

Furthermore, just yesterday, I saw my brother-in-law and his wife for the first time in months. They are both raving Democrats--avid supporters of Clinton and Kerry. But they went on and on and on--not about Bush and the Republicans--but about illegal immigration! They are beside themselves with fury! This is the main issue but not the only issue--AND--I found myself agreeing with them--for the first time ever!

It appears to me that--unless Bush and the rest of the Republicans pull a rabbit out of a hat--the Republicans are going to get thrown out of Congress this November--not because of the relentless, ruthless drumbeat of anti-Bush propaganda eminating from the Left, especially the "Mainstream Newsmedia", since the 2000 election, which inured the electorate to resist Leftist influence--but because the Republicans' failures have infuriated and alienated their base support!

What concerns me is that the Democrats will NOT stop illegal immigration or protect the borders. The Democrats will ENCOURAGE illegal immigration because they expect it to enlarge their base support.

The Republicans might stop illegal immigration and close the borders though it's not likely, especially considering Bush's remarks today.

Maybe a defeat of the Republican Congress in November 2006 will wake them up to reality, and maybe a wake-up call like that is what the nation needs. We certainly need to throw the RINOs out!

The problem is...how to get the Democrats out of Congress, once in, and how to keep them out of the White House.

And this fact cannot be escaped: No matter how bad the Republicans get--the Democrats are worse--much worse!

(Note tagline.)

The methods are the same...and Communists and nazis rounded up people outside their nations too...You define the group and then apply the methods to achieve the goals. Most illegals living here are not committing crimes either.

It cannot be done in the way the screamers like you want it...it would lead to violence, condemnation, and retribution. Sending back millions of illegally residing people is insane and you know it. There are other more reasonable ways to deal with the influx. Part of our tradition is allowing immigrants to come here. Criminals? Deport them. But law abiding hard working?

Dubya is right again. Temporary workers is the way to go.

I agree it won't work, if one is trying to achieve President's Bush's ideal.

The truth hurts to the FR deportation crowd, I surmise.

No, Dane, it means your more inflammatory and over-the-top posts are recognized exactly for what they are - flame-bait. And your motives for posting them are recognized as well as not being in good faith.
