A new audiotape from al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden will be aired today on the Arabic news station al Jazeera, the organisation claims.

It's either that -- or else -- launch an *all-out war* against the religion of Islam (the strategy I would prefer) -- and destroy it from the face of this earth. Make Islam an illegal relgion, all over the world. Destroy every vestige of Islam (Mosques, books, schools, outlaw the clerics, destroy the black stone in Mecca, tear down the Dome of the Rock, etc.).
However, I don't think that particular strategy is going to "fly" with the general public. So, we're left with the current strategy of Bush.

My son was 3 blocks from the towers ,I am a vietnam veteran ,and I still dont care ,I will care when he is killed not when we get an audio tape rehashing the same claptrap .

No offense, but people who continue to think Bin Laden is really dead, despite all evidence to the contrary, are like the NASA-Moon-Conspiracy folks.
Seriously, you need to get past that level of thinking - for your own good.

Please rethink this. The major difference between the Muslims and the American people is that we are people of hope. We believe in the good. We believe in God's grace. We know we can do anything with that Grace. Americans don't destroy unless it is to build. We are builders.
And we show we care about other Americans, other people. We are the most generous people on the Earth. That has been proven time and again.
If we lose our faith in one another and in God, then they have won.
CAIRO, Egypt - Osama bin Laden issued ominous new threats in an audiotape broadcast Sunday, purportedly saying the West was at war with Islam and calling on his followers to go to Sudan to fight a proposed U.N. force.
In his first new message in three months, bin Laden said the West's decision to cut off funds to the Palestinians because their Hamas leaders refuse to recognize Israel proved that the United States and Europe were conducting "a Zionist crusader war on Islam."
The voice on the tape sounded strong and resembled that on previous recordings attributed to bin Laden. There was no way to independently verify the authenticity of the tape.
"I call on mujahedeen and their supporters, especially in Sudan and the Arab peninsula, to prepare for long war again the crusader plunderers in Western Sudan. Our goal is not defending the Khartoum government but to defend Islam, its land and its people," bin Laden purportedly said.

I guess he forgot that HE DECLARED WAR ON THE US...is he suffering from some debilitating mental disease?
Not to speak for Star Traveler, but that was clearly sarcasm.
But that only applies for him, not the rest of the Muslims in the world. It would sure be nice if they all wake up from Satan's coma sometime soon.
What is the FReeper fascination with that show and this character? It is the one of the worst show on T.V. [almost all of them suck] I have suffered through bits and parts of it but then I actually feel my brain getting smaller as I watch...so I am compelled by the natural instinct of self preservation to get up and walk away.
What sort of dumbed down threshold are you people pushing past?
And yet we have had a major city and several minor ones severely damaged in the past year and we are still going on as a nation with only minor adjustments.
So your "end of the world"scenario simply does not in any way shape or form match reality.

Well, the thing is that if you want to get to that point you're talking about (getting rid of bin Laden), you have to care about the things of today and what's going on and what that means. Or else -- you never get to that point of getting rid of bin Laden.
Ignoring him won't work. The U.S. already tried that strategy a number of years before 9/11.
But, even further than that -- it's really not about bin Laden -- it's about Islam. This is the true problem. If bin Laden goes, there will be another, and another and another -- until you get rid of Islam. Islam is the problem and you've got 1.2 billion (or so) of them around. As long as they think Islam is destined to take over the world, that their Satanic god is the true god, that they are supposed to kill all Jews and Christians, and all the rest that goes along with Islam -- we're going to have more 9/11s coming.
It's not about bin Laden. It's about that evil and Satanic religion of Islam. AND, it's also about the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob who will use bin Laden to His own purposes. And in some cases, as we see in the Bible, God uses others (like bin Ladin) to bring calamity upon those who have ignored Him.

puts me in mind of c.s. lewis's space trilogy. how many times over the years have i thought that these books were so prescient in their vision of the future...the control of minds by extremists who also, btw, happen to be insane.
