Just a reminder: Free Republic is a conservative site. We fight for conservative principles, values and causes. We defend the Constitution. We defend our borders. We defend our God-given rights. We are opposed to the liberal/socialist/Marxist agenda for America. We do not willingly give up ground to the Marxists.

It's true that the illegal immigration issue is very discouraging, and I don't know if anyone has a solution that will appeal to conservatives and yet manage to get by Democrat obstructionism, ie, a filibuster, but I don't see that as any reason to give up everything. We should not allow it to rip us apart and destroy the movement. We fight on.

We hold the majority. We continue working as hard as we possibly can to elect as many conservatives as we possibly can. We build a conservative majority that can overcome the Democrats and the RINOs. We do not willingly give up any seats to Democrats. We add seats. Preferably, conservative seats.

I would also like to remind everyone, that Free Republic does not condone racism and does not advocate violence. We exercise our first amendment rights to free speech and peaceable assembly. We do not condemn people because of their race, religion, ethnicity, skin color, etc. We do not advocate civil war, anarchy, or an overthrow of the government. We do not advocate shooting illegals or mining the borders. We do not appreciate people coming across our borders illegally, but as conservatives, we do not issue racial epithets or threaten them with violence or bodily harm.

And, yes, we are at war. And we do support our troops and their mission. We also respect our commander-in-chief and are mindful that when people disrespect him, it hurts troop morale. We do not appreciate the mainstream media's attempts to destroy America's will to fight and we do not do anything to assist the Democrats and their accomplices in the media in their treasonous mission of undermining the war effort by providing aid and comfort to the enemy.

And despite our dissatisfaction and disappointments in regards to the illegal immigration issue, we recognize that it is not the last issue on earth and there are plenty of other reasons not to allow the Marxist Democrats to retake power.

I'll list a few issues (by no means and exhaustive list) that will be adversely affected by Marxist/Democrats in power:

Islamofascism/terrorism
National Security/Defense
The United Nations (as in their control over us)
The Supreme Court
The federal judiciary
The legislative agenda
The right to life
Marriage between one man, one woman
The family
Education
Health care
Private property
Taxation
Oil/energy
The right to keep and bear arms
The right to freedom of religion
The right to self-governance
All of our God-given rights
The Constitution
The Republic
Liberty itself

Do not get so discouraged that we give it all up. It could take generations to get it back. If ever.

"Securing the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity" is our duty.

You're welcome. And I'll pat myself on the back for being one of only 100,000+ votes over Kerry he got in Ohio that gave him the victory in the electoral college.

I don't think it will be another 40 years. Don't get me wrong. 'Rats back in power is a nightmare ... but not "unthinkable". And America survived - barely - with the 'Rats in charge for 40 years in Congress. I see a major slip on the ice by losing an election as a wake-up call that we can quickly recover from. The whole idea is to get the "Republicans" out and conservative Republicans back in. Lose a battle, but win a war.

Huh??? Is the above direct quote from you mischaracterized too, or is it just 1984 doublespeak? It makes my point exactly. If you are voting for the one "who isn't as bad" you are voting for the "lesser evil". This attitude is absolutely wounding the GOP to death by a thousand cuts. We didn't learn last time we had the Presidency until it was too late and in 1992 it cost us 8 shameful years of Clinton's appeasement and corruption. Is the GOP going to make the same mistake again as we go into the 2006 and 2008 elections? It sure looks to me that it is headed that way, and if it does, we'll have no one to blame but those in the party who thought they could retain power by compromise and appeasement.

Understand, I think we're on the same side of the fence albeit definitely with different approaches on how to combat socialist-democrats, I just think it's time to kick butt and take names and stand for the basic tenants of what conservatism is all about, many of which JimRob listed in this thread.

Regarding your recurring comments and position concerning "realism". I thank GOD our forefathers did not embrace this position when they weighed the consequences of whether to remain under the dominion and rule of the British government or whether to fight for freedom and sovereignty. Had they taken the "realistic" approach they would have clearly seen that they were out-manned, out-trained, and out-supplied by British forces. Had they chosen the route of compromise and appeasement, as many in our GOP party today are advocating, this nation would never have become the greatest nation (ever).

Unfortunately, even though you may not want or like to hear it, nevertheless, I'll repeat it again, history records that there are no great moderates or compromisers. If it does, provide a list of such historically significant leaders and I'll gladly retract the statement. Resolve to further and strengthen conservative ideals. Don't just settle for the scraps being thrown at us to shut us up.

I see Carter as a disaster. But not Clinton. Yea, he was a dirtbag but his lunacy gave us the Republican Revolution and congress back in control after more than 40 years. And Republicans got more accomplished ramming stuff down Clinton's throat than we can ever hope to get accomplished with the current administration.

Being that you are merely a Republican, perhaps you don't understand that if this amnesty is passed, and they make their way to voting citizenship, the game is over. Our nation is dead in the water. It will no longer exist except as a perception, if that.

Oh, please. Give it a rest, will you! Besides, "conservative" in the context used here refers to a political point of view/movement. It does not pertain to religion or religious beliefs, which is what the evolution vs. intelligent design debate is all about.

If we allow the democrats to regain power, then THEY will allow the illegals to become citizens and we automatically lose the immigration issue, along with a whole host of other issues just as important.

This is the problem Jim. If these illegals gain amnesty, with a Green Card, then nothing can stop them from becoming citizens, and the fight is over. That is the one think Kris Kobach told us last Wednesday night we simply cannot allow, and must fight.

I consider Clinton a disaster because of his effect on popular culture, and the attitudes that people picked up because of his actions in office and those of the people around him. The media was constantly making excuses for him, this giving the impression that what he did was fine and dandy. It wasn't lost on folks who were looking for excuses to misbehave.

A few years back, the choice for Governor was between Edwin Edwards and David Duke. I had the choice of voting for: 1. a hopelessly corrupt Democrat; 2. a Nazi-sympathizing KKKlown; 3. staying home and pretending it wasn't happening. My choice: I held my nose and voted for Edwards. I was not going to be in the position of remaining on the sidelines if Duke was elected governor of my state. I feel the same way about the Hildebeast.

That's a great analogy for the potential race between Hillary and McCain.

I voted for Edwards in that election as well. It was the most painful vote I ever cast.

Hispanics tend to vote Democratic anyway. That's the reality. Not as overwhelmingly as black voters, but they're still a democratic voting group nationally, with Florida being a bit different.

Right now, Dem politicians are pandering to hispanic voting groups big-time. And the House resolution pretty much created whatever animosity might exist anyway against the GOP. The cat is out of the bag.

Trying to win hispanic votes by pandering on the immigrant issue will never work, because the Dems will always pander more. I think a responsible position that emphasizes border security without demonizing all illegals won't alienate hispanic voters who otherwise would support the GOP, and will win a lot of other votes as well.

I was just reading our local Michigan paper and it seems that there is a very good poll out for DEVOS who is republican running against Jennifer Granholm.

So that is very good news worth noting...TIED...I never dreamed it would look so good for Republicans in the state of Michigan.

Well, if we let the Democrats regain the power I guarantee you it will happen, so I suggest we keep them out. Hold the line. Elect more conservatives. Appoint more conservative judges. Win the battle politically, district by district, state by state. I have faith in the American people.

I am a very conservative Republican..........the most conservative kind of person out there. Across the board, complete, steady, rational, unflappable, rock-solid moral, fiscal, small government, all over conservative.

I don't agree with the left on anything. You should try it sometime. It's kinda fun to be RIGHT about everything. :)
