Just a reminder: Free Republic is a conservative site

Posted on 04/11/2006 3:33:35 AM PDT by Jim Robinson

Just a reminder: Free Republic is a conservative site. We fight for conservative principles, values and causes. We defend the Constitution. We defend our borders. We defend our God-given rights. We are opposed to the liberal/socialist/Marxist agenda for America. We do not willingly give up ground to the Marxists.

It's true that the illegal immigration issue is very discouraging, and I don't know if anyone has a solution that will appeal to conservatives and yet manage to get by Democrat obstructionism, ie, a filibuster, but I don't see that as any reason to give up everything. We should not allow it to rip us apart and destroy the movement. We fight on.

We hold the majority. We continue working as hard as we possibly can to elect as many conservatives as we possibly can. We build a conservative majority that can overcome the Democrats and the RINOs. We do not willingly give up any seats to Democrats. We add seats. Preferably, conservative seats.

I would also like to remind everyone, that Free Republic does not condone racism and does not advocate violence. We exercise our first amendment rights to free speech and peaceable assembly. We do not condemn people because of their race, religion, ethnicity, skin color, etc. We do not advocate civil war, anarchy, or an overthrow of the government. We do not advocate shooting illegals or mining the borders. We do not appreciate people coming across our borders illegally, but as conservatives, we do not issue racial epithets or threaten them with violence or bodily harm.

And, yes, we are at war. And we do support our troops and their mission. We also respect our commander-in-chief and are mindful that when people disrespect him, it hurts troop morale. We do not appreciate the mainstream media's attempts to destroy America's will to fight and we do not do anything to assist the Democrats and their accomplices in the media in their treasonous mission of undermining the war effort by providing aid and comfort to the enemy.

And despite our dissatisfaction and disappointments in regards to the illegal immigration issue, we recognize that it is not the last issue on earth and there are plenty of other reasons not to allow the Marxist Democrats to retake power.

I'll list a few issues (by no means and exhaustive list) that will be adversely affected by Marxist/Democrats in power:

Islamofascism/terrorism
National Security/Defense
The United Nations (as in their control over us)
The Supreme Court
The federal judiciary
The legislative agenda
The right to life
Marriage between one man, one woman
The family
Education
Health care
Private property
Taxation
Oil/energy
The right to keep and bear arms
The right to freedom of religion
The right to self-governance
All of our God-given rights
The Constitution
The Republic
Liberty itself

Do not get so discouraged that we give it all up. It could take generations to get it back. If ever.

"Securing the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity" is our duty.

I also deserve to vote for politicians that take their oath of office seriously and don't give the country away to invaders.

If you vote RINO Republican you are voting for unbridled socialism, nation killing, uncontrolled spending, etc. They have proven that they are no different from what we are fighting. Even those Republican politicians that we have always considered conservative have let us down. Kay Bailey Hutchins has a C and a C- on the issue.

Your sovereignty is being killed off right in front of your nose conservative.

Would you call the 2000 and 2004 election won by a hair?
Just wait until the 20 to 30 million new Mexican American citizens vote, and then the 20 to 30 million coming in behind them.

Unless you folks that laughing call yourself the judge of all things conservative get off your rumps an demonstrate all this is arranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

Well said. If these Pseudo Conservatives want to self destruct fine, but when they want to take us with them, time to put a stop to their delusions.

"Perfect is the enemy of good"

While I'd like very much to agree with you both, I don't. Illegal immigration is the ONLY issue that should concern Freepers. Failure to address that problem realistically will lead to a permanent Democrat majority.

Any phony watered-down 'amnesty' bill passed by Republicans that doesn't close the border will in short time will lead to an insurmountable number of new Democrat voters. Democrats win.

Since Democrats win in any scenario except the one where we fight like hell and pass a real bill, what's the point? Jim, it's just a question of how long it will take before all the items in your long list will be dominated by the Democrats. Illegals already vote -- ask Bob Dornan! -- and if the invasion is not stopped once and for all and right now, conservatives lose. Period.

Invaders, let me tell you. I am sitting 15 miles north of the largest and busiest border crossing in the world.
San Diego - Tijuana. This has been going on all during the 1990s when Clinton was in and didn't hear much from you Pseudo Conservatives. What is going on now is old,
just getting more attention now. I don't like it but I will back Bush as the other choice would be Hillery or her kind and it will be 100 times worse.

I was a counter protester with a group v 50,000 Mexicans
here in San Diego.
I spend 1 to 2 Suns. a month with other FReepers and Protest Warriors countering the Code Pinkos near the Navy Hospital and have countered major anti war rallies.
I don't see you Bush Basher types coming out to be with us.
You and your kind wouldn't get off you ass if was the second coming.

There are two factions battling here, the conservative part (law and order, traditional values)

I take issue with calling the anti-illegal immigrant crowd a "traditional values" group. By stirring up Hispanics and (possibly) causing them to vote Dem, they're hurting the electoral possibilities of Repubs who fight abortion, gay marriage, and stem cell research.

I think the problem is when people phrase the debate as Evolutionists versus Christians. Some Christians are Evolutionists. Not every Christian believes the whole Universe was made in 6 24 hour days. They believe that the Bible is the spiritual record of man and God, not a science book.

An example, at one time many Christians believed that the Sun and the Moon orbited the Earth. Some attributed this to scripture (Joshua stopping the sun*). As our science progressed, we determined these things not to be true. Did this mean scripture is false? Of course not! The Bible just isn't a science book is all.

* Many have argued that by praying to God to "stop" the Sun from moving really meant Joshua was praying to God to stop the Earth rotating, or that God knew what he meant so simply stopped the Earth's rotation. But this is reading in things that aren't explicitly in that scripture--which many who advocate this--turn around and say you can not do so in Genesis. All Genesis MUST be taken exactly as written without any interpretation. So arguing that Christians can only have one "correct" view to creation and it is the view you advocate is implying that those who disagree with you aren't Christians.

Your "vote for the lesser evil in order to win at all costs" approach....

Nice mischaracterization of my position. You don't "win" by voting for the lesser of two evils. But when the only realistic choice (one of two candidates in a two party system) in an election is between two candidates who are "evils", I'll vote for the one who isn't as bad. And hope that next election cycle, we can nominate someone better.

....will compromise you right into socialism which is where this nation is headed if we don't turn it around.

How do you figure? The reality is that we have a two party system, with the primaries being the method by which those parties may alter their ideological approach in a given election. Once you get past the primaries, and you have a choice between someone who is not very good, and someone who is downright horrible, one of those two is going to win. Again, that's reality.

So given that one of those two imperfect candidates is going to win, how does it accelerate socialism to vote for the one who is the least socialist?

History shows that there are no great moderates or compromisers.

I'm so tired of the bogus line of thinking that equates compromise with being a moderate. So I'll try the example I've used before.

In 2001, Bush wanted a tax cut in the range of $1.3T. Gore supported one of $900T. In reality, he'd have preferred no tax cut at all, but popular opinion wouldn't permit that. So, he said that $900B was the right amount. Bush compromised, and we got a cut of $1.1T. All numbers approximate.

Absent Bush's willingness to compromise, the tax cut may well have died. So is it better to "refuse to compromise", and get no tax cut at all, or compromise, and get that tax cut?

A compromise that leaves you worse off than when you started is bogus. Those deals, you should kill, and I'd put the latest Senate bill on immigration into that category.. But a lot of compromises can leave you better than you started -- it all matters the starting point, and in which direction you are moving.

The Dems got this country moving to the left economically not in huge steps, but in little ones. When they couldn't get a full loaf, they got a half. And then a few years down the road, they got the other half. Compromise has worked for them to a large extent. The difference is that they know there also are times when you have to dig in your heels.

"Never compromise"? You've compromised every single time you've voted, unless you happen to be the one in a million guy who agreed exactly with your candidate on every single issue.

The problem is that too many FReepers refuse to look at the immigration issue in a reasonable, thoughtful manner. They refuse to take into account the economic impact that displacing a workforce will cause.

What is unreasonable for wanting a party to stand clearly in the "right". Then have those that support good and not lawbreaking come towards the light. I support a party that stands for what is right and to oppose those that don't stand for what is right.. I don't want a party that bends every direction away from what is right.. Take a stand and stand firm for what is right, then people that you need will come to you. I will take a stand for what is right and I refuse to budge to power appeals.

When the general public loses the ability to decern right from wrong... all is lost in my opinion... I base the Bible as the compass for that knowledge...

“I tell you the truth, anyone who sneaks over the wall of a sheepfold, rather than going through the gate, must surely be a thief and a robber![1] John 10:1

Proverbs 17:15 15 Acquitting the guilty and condemning the innocent— the LORD detests them both.

I do NOT put faith in those that appease lawbreakers... I believe it's economic impacts far dwarf those "Economic impacts that shipping back and punishing those displaced illegals will cause". I do not put faith in worldly reasoning... it has put us in this mess in the first place..

Stop illegal immigration, fine those employers highly that engage in illegal hiring... and do it now...

Because the sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. Eccl. 8:11

Illegal immigration is the ONLY issue that should concern Freepers. Failure to address that problem realistically will lead to a permanent Democrat majority.

That is a ridiculous statement. My husband is Mexican and is extremely conservative. So is the rest of his family and most of our friends.

Most Mexicans are Catholic, hate things like abortion, eugenics and euthanasia, and are very hardworking people, family oriented and humble. It is our party's failure that we haven't put in the effort to make them aware of which party stands for what, while the dems go after them.

Your statement shows typical sterotyping. Mexicans don't all come over the border to take advantage of America. They are here because they are desparate for jobs, decent healthcare and opportunity not available to them in their own country. We should have been paying attention to the problem all along, instead of waiting till we have millions of undocumented workers here and going into panic mode. The fix won't be easy now, or cheap, but we need to be helping these people, not hating them for where they were born.

Next week will be the Anniversary of,what I believe to be anyway, THE defining moment in American History.

The Battle of Lexington.

They were just 'average Americans'....shopkeepers....farmers....merchants...blacksmiths.

And yet...they set in motion the forces that shaped and indeed gave Birth to this Nation.

They stood their ground....in front of the finest light infantry in the world...and refused to give in...to surrender.

We have a history of not giving in...or giving up.

Surrender to the Liberal scum???

Hell no....I have not yet begun to fight! (borrowed from another famous American faced with huge odds against him.)

Got your six!

Though I agree immigration is an important issue ..

I of the thinking it's not the ONLY issue that we should worry about

I'm thinking there are a number of things

Iran threatening to nuke us and Israel every 5 minutes would one of them

But hey .. what do I know
