Just a reminder: Free Republic is a conservative site. We fight for conservative principles, values and causes. We defend the Constitution. We defend our borders. We defend our God-given rights. We are opposed to the liberal/socialist/Marxist agenda for America. We do not willingly give up ground to the Marxists.
It's true that the illegal immigration issue is very discouraging, and I don't know if anyone has a solution that will appeal to conservatives and yet manage to get by Democrat obstructionism, ie, a filibuster, but I don't see that as any reason to give up everything. We should not allow it to rip us apart and destroy the movement. We fight on.
We hold the majority. We continue working as hard as we possibly can to elect as many conservatives as we possibly can. We build a conservative majority that can overcome the Democrats and the RINOs. We do not willingly give up any seats to Democrats. We add seats. Preferably, conservative seats.
I would also like to remind everyone, that Free Republic does not condone racism and does not advocate violence. We exercise our first amendment rights to free speech and peaceable assembly. We do not condemn people because of their race, religion, ethnicity, skin color, etc. We do not advocate civil war, anarchy, or an overthrow of the government. We do not advocate shooting illegals or mining the borders. We do not appreciate people coming across our borders illegally, but as conservatives, we do not issue racial epithets or threaten them with violence or bodily harm.
And, yes, we are at war. And we do support our troops and their mission. We also respect our commander-in-chief and are mindful that when people disrespect him, it hurts troop morale. We do not appreciate the mainstream media's attempts to destroy America's will to fight and we do not do anything to assist the Democrats and their accomplices in the media in their treasonous mission of undermining the war effort by providing aid and comfort to the enemy.
And despite our dissatisfaction and disappointments in regards to the illegal immigration issue, we recognize that it is not the last issue on earth and there are plenty of other reasons not to allow the Marxist Democrats to retake power.
I'll list a few issues (by no means and exhaustive list) that will be adversely affected by Marxist/Democrats in power:
Islamofascism/terrorism
National Security/Defense
The United Nations (as in their control over us)
The Supreme Court
The federal judiciary
The legislative agenda
The right to life
Marriage between one man, one woman
The family
Education
Health care
Private property
Taxation
Oil/energy
The right to keep and bear arms
The right to freedom of religion
The right to self-governance
All of our God-given rights
The Constitution
The Republic
Liberty itself
Do not get so discouraged that we give it all up. It could take generations to get it back. If ever.
"Securing the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity" is our duty.
How 'bout farm subsidies? Drugs for Geezers? No Child gets Ahead? The proposed "Not-An-Amnesty"?
Big picture, we got the expiration of the assault weapons ban, Tax cuts... with dems in power would have gotten tax increases and more anti-gun laws
Thank you. Because of yours and other votes for the POTUS, just look at the positive changes on our Supreme Court. Imagine who would have replaced O'Connor and Rhenquist had Bush not won. (Shudder)
John Anderson was a liberal Republican (called RINO) who ran on the Republican ticket in the 1980 presidential campaign. He dropped out in the spring to become an independent candidate and barely got 7% of the vote in November, and hardly seen as a "spoiler" of that election, because people were fed up with Carter, and Reagan was seen as likeable by a sizeable majority of Democrats and Republicans.
FMOI - Didn't he run on the Libertarian Ticket ?
you sing and dance as well as anyone, but what the h*ll are you talking about?
Your logic is convoluted and your prejudices are ripe and showing. You may be right in saying that for a conservative evangelical Christian, one must denounce evolution. That would be your perogative as an evangelical Christian. As an American Conservative, whose ranks are made up of both Protestant and RC and Orthodox groups and members of the Jewish faith (and yes the athiest among us), and who buy doctrine are not required to meld bibilical and scienctific treatises, you have alienated a good size chunk of us in the Conservative movement.
Either document your truths and falshoods with scientific facts, or worship the lord quitely. Blind faith is a wonderful thing so enjoy it to its fullest with those who would wish to.
The leeches are those who make up a particular voting block in the Conservative movement, who want to throw the whole movement out the window for their own rigid need to proselytize.
IIRC it was the republican senator from Alabama who led the charge to table the proposed immigration "reform" legislation last week.
I agree. Amnesty and rewards is no "solution". But no one on Free Republic is expecting the illegal immigration issue to be solved during Bush's term. I mean, it should have been following 9/11, but Bush did not step up to the plate and it is too late for him to make any real positive progress on the issue. So, what we're trying to avoid now is letting him make the problem MUCH worse which he seems hell bent to do. The McKennedy bill that he wanted passed or any other form of amnesty would make the problem far worse. We have to fight and fight hard to make sure that doesn't happen.
Good NAVCHECK
We continue to Drive on!
I'm not so sure that the Republican party is conservative anymore though.
Yes, there are conservatives in the Republican party still. I'm beginning to beleive, however, that they are in a quickly depleting minority, at least on the national level.
If you look at my "About" page you'll see that I subscibe to no particular political party.
I'm not sure that I can vote Republican when the polls open. However, I would be more than happy to vote conservative, no matter who the candidate may be.
I remember the marches here in my small town just before prop 187 was passed to try to halt illegal immigration by cutting benefits to illegals.
The marches scared the pants off a lot of voters, and put Prop 187 over the top.
I think seeing all those people demanding/protesting and some waving Mexican flags is counterproductive in the same way. It may influence the law makers but it is scaring the voters.
Use your bowie knife to the throat and use the dead horse for cover. Save your bullets for the enemy. Shoot for effect.
Tonque in cheek - YES
Those of us who live in Chicago had a complete demonstration of the UNITY between these marchers and the Party of Treason as RAT after RAT stepped up to the podium to encourage the lawless.
I agree. It's about time people start thinking rationally about the immigration debate. If the Dems take over, not only will immigration be lost but also everything else. The primary is where the RINO's should be rooted out. The general election is to keep the Democrats from power.
If WE build it.
Do you have any thoughts/insight on why Bush put us back in UNESCO?
Or this:

This UN stuff is making me very schizophrenic on what Bush's intentions are.
Your failure to grasp the point is not my failing.
The trouble is that it wouldn't be "one or two elections." Once the RATs get back in power, there will be no more Pubbies in power for generations, just like before when we had 40 years of socialism forced down our collective throats.
Yep! :-)
If you believe the GOP is Marxist then maybe you should be at another web site such as crazyasaloon.com.
