I agree completely about it not being the end if it is not solved this year or even during Bush's term. In fact I would prefer that it not be solved if it means the solution is that they are granted any type of amnesty and a shot at becoming citizens.

I agree. Amnesty and rewards is no "solution". But no one on Free Republic is expecting the illegal immigration issue to be solved during Bush's term. I mean, it should have been following 9/11, but Bush did not step up to the plate and it is too late for him to make any real positive progress on the issue. So, what we're trying to avoid now is letting him make the problem MUCH worse which he seems hell bent to do. The McKennedy bill that he wanted passed or any other form of amnesty would make the problem far worse. We have to fight and fight hard to make sure that doesn't happen.

I could not possibly agree more.

I don't think we could have gotten meaningful immigration reform past the Democrats after 9/11 as they had control of the Senate then (thanks to Jim Jeffords switch and Hillary holding up newspapers that read "Bush Knew").

As long as 60 votes are needed in the Senate to a bill to pass, nothing the Dems hate will make it over the wall.

Precisely.

I exist here to preserve America.

Not George Bush. I look forward to replacing him with someone more conservative in 2008 and yes that person will prbably be from the GOP....hopefully. We have no other real choice.

I am very very disappointed in him lately and some other GOP.

What the heck is wrong with that?

Why is that treated by some around here as blasphemy?

I busyed my arse and my wallet getting him elected twice. I have the right to CRITICIZE HIM. What is this notion we can't criticize the president over things he does that are no conservative by any measure?

We plan to get rid of RINOs asap.

at least I hope so.
