Just a reminder: Free Republic is a conservative site

Posted on 04/11/2006 3:33:35 AM PDT by Jim Robinson

Just a reminder: Free Republic is a conservative site. We fight for conservative principles, values and causes. We defend the Constitution. We defend our borders. We defend our God-given rights. We are opposed to the liberal/socialist/Marxist agenda for America. We do not willingly give up ground to the Marxists.

It's true that the illegal immigration issue is very discouraging, and I don't know if anyone has a solution that will appeal to conservatives and yet manage to get by Democrat obstructionism, ie, a filibuster, but I don't see that as any reason to give up everything. We should not allow it to rip us apart and destroy the movement. We fight on.

We hold the majority. We continue working as hard as we possibly can to elect as many conservatives as we possibly can. We build a conservative majority that can overcome the Democrats and the RINOs. We do not willingly give up any seats to Democrats. We add seats. Preferably, conservative seats.

I would also like to remind everyone, that Free Republic does not condone racism and does not advocate violence. We exercise our first amendment rights to free speech and peaceable assembly. We do not condemn people because of their race, religion, ethnicity, skin color, etc. We do not advocate civil war, anarchy, or an overthrow of the government. We do not advocate shooting illegals or mining the borders. We do not appreciate people coming across our borders illegally, but as conservatives, we do not issue racial epithets or threaten them with violence or bodily harm.

And, yes, we are at war. And we do support our troops and their mission. We also respect our commander-in-chief and are mindful that when people disrespect him, it hurts troop morale. We do not appreciate the mainstream media's attempts to destroy America's will to fight and we do not do anything to assist the Democrats and their accomplices in the media in their treasonous mission of undermining the war effort by providing aid and comfort to the enemy.

And despite our dissatisfaction and disappointments in regards to the illegal immigration issue, we recognize that it is not the last issue on earth and there are plenty of other reasons not to allow the Marxist Democrats to retake power.

I'll list a few issues (by no means and exhaustive list) that will be adversely affected by Marxist/Democrats in power:

Islamofascism/terrorism
National Security/Defense
The United Nations (as in their control over us)
The Supreme Court
The federal judiciary
The legislative agenda
The right to life
Marriage between one man, one woman
The family
Education
Health care
Private property
Taxation
Oil/energy
The right to keep and bear arms
The right to freedom of religion
The right to self-governance
All of our God-given rights
The Constitution
The Republic
Liberty itself

Do not get so discouraged that we give it all up. It could take generations to get it back. If ever.

"Securing the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity" is our duty.

Actually I meant that New Orleans didn't have enough righteous people in the city to do the right thing, and so the city couldn't be saved.

Same may be in the pipeline for SF.

You are jumping to assumptions without reading the links I've posted. I can't debate it with you until you can see clearly and read the threads.

"The reason to stick with the GOP is that it is the best avenue to get conservative voices in government. Yes, there are a lot of Republicans who aren't conservatives. But if conservatives don't have the votes within the Republican party to nominate and elect a conservative, then by what logic can they get the votes among voters at large? It's a lot easier to win a primary than a general election."

This is the great flaw in our system. It is winner-take-all, with no room for proportionality. It kills third-parties much as the shade from an old, decrepit tree prevents new growth from sprouting. In fact, any third-party would be, in reality, a "second" party, since our much-vaunted two party system is, in reality, a one-party system (call it "Republicrat" or "Demopublican") with a right and left wing. The best way to remedy this is the one that would never happen; a European-style unicameral legislature; a way that might work might be instant-runoff voting, but the Republicrats which run state elections would never let that happen.

...then what possible incentive would they have to nominate conservative candidates instead of RINOs that will attract more center/left votes?

If I am not mistaken, the GOP does not nominate the candidates. The people do that through nominating petitions, etc. Are you running for office or working to get a conservative nominated? That is the best way to achieve your goals. In 1964, I spent every spare minute I had working in Barry Goldwater's Tucson office.

lets not split hairs..my position is I will not support those that vote for amnesty and keeping Open Borders..the GOP will not see my money or votes - but individual conservative candidate such as : Tancredo, Weldon, Allen,Santorum,Sessions- and such will get my money not the party which has left conservatives behind under our current GOP chairman.

My original point stands. Perot gave us 8 years of Clinton BECAUSE of what you just said. The democrats lost because of the democrats. The republicans lost because of Perot.

Ditto

I agree with you.

Conservative people of good faith can agree and disagree on many issues (even Cration/ID/Evolution) and still remain "conservative."

Calling one another names (leeches, cancer) helps nothing.

This issue has come to a head late for President Bush, I think that he thought he was going to be able to pass it off to the next President, personally since his feelings are on the pro-illegal side and with how Presidents look at their legacy I really doubt that he wants to be known as the President that erected the wall between the US and Mexico. Thats just my opinion, yes it's needed but he may seem harm coming from it to "his" legacy if he does. <~~~ all of the previous stuff is pure speculation just a thought, thats why I think GWB would sign the bill but don't think he's going to go out of his way to campaign for it. Congress is who we need to pressure, I want the 1,700 mile wall not just 700 mile...

Thank you, Jim!! The threats and hatred have gotten out of control, and that is NOT the way conservatives handle themselves.

Thanks again for the MUCH needed directive from the TOP!

(I hope there is a palpable response to this so that all the good folks thinking of leaving stick around).

Sorry JR but the betrayal of Conservatives by the Reps. is to deep this time. They ALL need to go home and sit in the dunce corner. Being in power is not worth the sacrifices they are demanding we make.

"I think that he thought he was going to be able to pass it off to the next President"

Clinton was notorious for "kicking the can down the road", it's disheartening to see Dubya doing the same thing.

"personally since his feelings are on the pro-illegal side and with how Presidents look at their legacy I really doubt that he wants to be known as the President that erected the wall between the US and Mexico"

no argument here. :(

Christ said, "The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed," among many other parables. Does that mean the Kingdom of Heaven is a millimeter across?

Nope. That's not at all what that parable means. If you read it in it's full context (Matthew chapter 13), it's a parable upon Jesus' description of the Church at the moment of His return here on earth. The Parable of the Mustard Seed is, on its surface, sounds optimistic, but the actual meaning of the parable is that the church in its final stages before His return will lapse into weakness and apostasy. Afterall, it is known that He will set up His Kingdom here on earth upon His return. When? No one knows, but one thing is for sure, there will be those who will stray from His Word before He returns.

"The republicans lost because of Perot."

Republicans lost in 1992 because GHW Bush ran a bass-ackwards campaign and p'd off his base.

Republicans lost in 1996 because they nominated a dead man.

That concerns me more than risking one or two elections.

That's what folks said before Carter and Clinton were elected, too. No thanks!
