WASHINGTON - Putting aside party differences, Senate Republicans and Democrats coalesced Thursday around compromise legislation that holds out the hope of citizenship to an estimated 11 million immigrants living in the United States unlawfully.

"We can no longer afford to delay reform," said Republican Sens. John McCain and Edward M. Kennedy in a statement that capped weeks of struggle to find common ground. [TRANSLATION: Amnesty and a path to citizenship for 11 million illegal aliens]

I like the courthouse vigil with flags. Silent, no signs, no yells or insults. Just flags. If the media asks why, tell them it's a request to our leaders to uphold the laws of the land instead of letting them be trampled at our borders and in our halls of law and justice.

A big F-CK YOU to anyone who believes in the rule of law and international boundaries.

When my professors at U of Chicago talked about "a borderless world" I had sense enough not to take them seriously. Wish I could say that about the Senate.

"True, but rounding up and deporting 11 million people doesn't make much sense."

No, but making it a felony to hire one makes much sense; without jobs, the cucarochas will go home."

"It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man." -Psalm 118:8

Think The Lord would be proud of this:

Bring back "Wetback".

What a travesty this thing is. If we make these illegals 'Americans' then who the hell is going to do that work that 'Americans' won't do?

We hear that from the POTUS all the time, they're here to do waht 'Americans' won't do.

Guess we'll have to let more illegals in to do those jobs.

Let me get this straight......If I've been "parked in America" illegally more than 5 years, I get off scot-free. But, if I've been parked in a 1 hour parking zone for 5 hours, I have 4 parking tickets to pay in 14 days or my butt will be in jail?
What am I missing here?

"2006 will be of special interest to future historians studying the bloodless coup of the United States."

Millions will now flood our borders. I've allready heard of reports of the same.

Tell us what you think, sinkspur.

Think the dissolution of the the American republic will be good for the weak and the downtrodden?

There are loop holes around the hiring bit too.

I am still researching the details; but, so far, a company that is incorporated outside of our country hires them. They are employees for LEASE.

Then, businesses within our country can lease the employees and not have to pay the employee taxes, benefits, minimums etc.

"I'm so angry I would almost as soon the the Democrats in power just to get rid of these faux-conservative traitors."

The prevalence of this sentiment is my biggest problem with FR these days. I remember having this argument back in 1992 with friends of mine voting for Perot because of the "Read my lips" fiasco. How'd that work out? Did you enjoy 8 years of William Jefferson Clinton?

Still think you'd rather have the Democrats in power?

Again, don't misinterpret me. I think the GOP (at least the senate) has dropped the ball on immigration and spending. But I think we've also accomplished a great deal.

The answer is not throw up your hands and quit, but work for more conservative candidates within the party.

I don't accept your premise.
