HARRISBURG -- Republican challenger Lynn Swann held a slight lead over incumbent Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell in a statewide poll released today, with a third of registered voters indicating they were open to voting for either man.

Thirty-five percent of those surveyed in the IssuesPA/Pew Poll said they were likely to vote for Swann, the retired Pittsburgh Steelers star and former college football television analyst. Twenty-nine percent said they would probably support Rendell, and 34 percent were considered up for grabs.

It'll never happen, the Philly Dem crook machine (way redundant, I know) will not allow it. I already have seen several editorials in the Philly rags all but calling Swann an "Uncle Tom".

Swann will need a very big lead on election day or the Philadelphia criminal machine will crank out enough votes for Fast Eddie to win again.

Hmmmm....I'd rather be ahead than behind....also is this not a large increase in the undecided vote from previous polls?

Do you hve any links to these rags, I love to point out the hypocracy of the left to my very democratic, black fiancee.

She thinks the dems are the party of blacks, women, the family, you know, the usual tripe. Yet any time I point out some discrepancies, she shuts her ears and runs away. Like "why do the dems build abortion clinics in black neighborhoods?"

Although I do have her supporting Swann, probably just because he's black but I'll take it for now.

Yes it is, the last poll I saw had Rendell ahead 39% to 37% with 24% undecided. If these polls are accurate(and they rarely are) Swann is gaining support and Rendell is losing big time.

This is very encouraging for Swann and supporters, as he has yet to do any real campaigning around the state.

"Republican challenger Lynn Swann held a slight lead over incumbent Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell ..." is CLASSIC ratspeak! In ratspeak when the rat is ahead by .025% he has a lead. When the Republican has a lead of 4% or less it's a tie. If the rat has a lead of one point to two a half points, that's a solid lead and 2 1/2 points up to 4 points, it's a commanding lead.
Characterizing a 35/ 29 lead as "slight" is true soviet style ratspeak and an affront to truth.

How about posting one of them. In the meantime, why anyone pays any attention to such polls remains a mystery to me. Is the election today? I didn't think so. Please spare me from these endless, meaningless polls.

Rendell recently greased the skids for his reelection by vetoing the voter ID bill, thus keeping voter fraud alive and well here in Pennsylvania. But I can tell you this ... here in Southwestern PA, normally automatic straight Democratic ticket lever pulling zombie-land, virtually everyone I talk to is supporting Swann. Based on what I hear these polls are wrong. Swann is much further ahead.

She thinks the dems are the party of blacks, women, the family, you know, the usual tripe. Yet any time I point out some discrepancies, she shuts her ears and runs away. Like "why do the dems build abortion clinics in black neighborhoods?"

Ask her how many blacks Bill "The First Black President" Clinton put on the Supreme Court or put in important cabinet positions like National Security Advisor or Secretary of State. Ask her what Democrat politicians have done to help blacks in all of the urban areas that they control. Ask her why, after Democrats took control of the cities and put all of those welfare and affirmative action programs into place, the number of black children born to a single mother has skyrocketed from around 30% to around 70%. The Klan couldn't have come up with a better program to destroy the black family and condemn black males to lives of crime and poverty if they tried. Black slaves used to risk beatings and worse to learn how to read and to escape and live free. They used to bear secret family names to create family bonds that slave owners tried to break because they wanted a sense of family. Johnson's Great Society manged to destroy the black family, make all too many blacks happy to live as wards of the state unable to help themselves, and liberals have convinced blacks that reading is beneath them. Ask her to explain how all of that helped blacks. I'd really like to know.

You also might want to tell her that I've talked to several Carribean blacks who are embarassed to be identified as blacks or with American blacks. One insisted on calling himself Jamaican, not black. The other, who had a poor mother and lived in the Bronx, talked about Jamaican kids doing better in school than the American blacks because they didn't want to be thought of as being as stupid as the American blacks. And that's not even going into the increasing unease that I'm hearing from other white people about living anywhere near blacks because between the LA Riots, the OJ Simpson reaction, and other similar incidents, white people just don't trust blacks. She needs to wake up and realize that things are going backward and not forward toward Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream of a society where people are judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin. And it's the Democrats driving that by dividing people by race and making poor blacks dependent on their handouts for political advantage that's driving a lot of it.

Finally, some reading suggestions. First, anything by Thomas Sowell is good but, in particular, Race and Culture, The Vision of the Annointed, and The Quest For Cosmic Justice. The Vision of the Annointed is a harsh indictment of liberal policies and why they don't work. Second, I highly recommend Keith Richburg's Out of America. Basically, it discussed Richburg's experiences in Africa as a black American.

Yay! Go, Swanny! This is good news. I'm sure fast Eddie and the dems will try to crank up their slime machine, but we expected that.

You're preaching to the choir, I try to ask her these things but she's not interested in them. She watches network news, watches MTV, listens to rap and R&B radio all of them bombard her with the same messages.

She gets mad when I talk to her 16 year old daughter about politics. Her daughter sees what I'm talking about, she's interested in the things I have to tell her and the questions I ask. She took a test in H.S. which told her by her answers and beliefs that she's a republican.

My fiancee isn't really interested very much in politics, just in spouting the party line.
