House Majority Leader John A. Boehner refused yesterday to rule out compromising with the Senate to expand the House border security bill to include a guest-worker program or provisions that opponents call "amnesty." "Let's wait and see what the Senate can produce," he told reporters yesterday when asked whether House Republicans would reject the Senate Judiciary Committee's proposal to allow the estimated 12 million illegal aliens now in the U.S. to seek citizenship after paying a fine.

Okay, I take that as you will be applying for a vegetable picker or janitorial job tomorrow.
Don't take a handful of lazy Katrina evacuees as your proof that Americans in general are shiftless and lazy. So they obviously didn't care if New Orleans got rebuilt-----maybe they intend to stay in Houston for the rest of their life. Who knows?
What a stupid question.
If you choose not to enforce the law, isn't that defacto amnesty ?
LOL Jorge, I think he landed in Cancun not to long ago.
Uh it ain't a handful, it's hundreds of thousands.
Notice how many newbies are posting?
No, I merely pointed out the *scope* of the activity. 12 million illegal aliens is *larger* than the number rounded up in Europe in WW2.
That's not a moral comparison, that's a size-of-job picture.
To reduce the difficulty of that job, I offered a positive suggestion (because unlike many posters on this thread, I want a real solution rather than an Orwellian 2 minute hate). My suggestion was to convince illegals who are already here (i.e. 12 million or more of them) to voluntarily register themselves with our government.
Registration makes confiscation/banning easier. That gun-grabbers choose to use this tactic should not preclude us from using it.
Nonsense. Americans used to do all the "jobs Americans won't do" and will do them again, once the market distorting effects of mass immigration are removed. The notion that America will "collapse" if we crack down on illegal immigration is pure nonsense, not to mention anti-American.
It is no point talking to characters like Dane who are totally willing to betray America for money.
You have to acknowledge when the person you are communicating possesses no patriotism or moral values whatsoever and then just ignore that person.
I didn't get a speeding ticket the other day, driving right past a sheriff on the interstate, is that defacto amnesty? What a stupid reply.
Ok, I'll take that as you will be applying for job as a vegetable picker or janitor tomorrow.
I think the easiest solution is to go after the employers. Once people stop hiring them, the incentive for illegals to stay here will disappear. I don't think there will be any way to convince illegals to register with the government, unless it is tied into some amnesty or guest worker plan.
"You show me a job that "no American will do" and I'll show you a job that doesn't really need to be done"
Stoop labor in the fields?
Even at the going rate of about $10 hr. they can't even get enough migrant workers to do it.
Yep punish the people who do good things such as grow food and build buildings and create wealth.
Everything old soviet is new soviet again.
As a matter of fact, yes. That is a defacto amnesty. You aren't terribly bright, are you ?
If the sheriff routinely chooses not to ticket speeders than it is a defacto amnesty.
Like when state police choose to ticket only drivers going over 65 when the speed limit is 55 then you have a defacto amnesty.
No, I don't need to. Other Americans will, though, once those jobs pay a decent wage. I live in a city that has attracted relatively few immigrants in recent decades. Amazingly enough, janitorial jobs still get done--by Americans.
There's a sub shop near where I live, looking for employees, starting out at $12 an hour. A sub shop!
Evidently, you (and the other FReepers on this thread) are not a student of history. California has always been the most dynamic state in the Union - trends start here long before they hit the rest of the country. Prop 187 attempted to craft on a state level what the current House legislation is trying to achieve.
Here's what happened: 1. Overturned by a federal court
2. Permanent Democratic majority
3. Further growth of illegal immigration
4. California a 'minority' majority state
Based on this experience, people should try and understand that (a) illegals are not going anywhere and there will be nothing substantially done to stop further illegal immigration; (b) the Democrats are coming close to having the demographics behind them to become a permanent majority party; (c) there will increased, not less, illegal immigration; and (d) the US will become a 'minority' majority country.
Thems's the facts, and the sooner people get comfortable with them, the sooner they can get down to figuring out how to thrive in this new environment - just like CA natives have done over the last 15 years.
