Evidently, you (and the other FReepers on this thread) are not a student of history. California has always been the most dynamic state in the Union - trends start here long before they hit the rest of the country. Prop 187 attempted to craft on a state level what the current House legislation is trying to achieve.
Here's what happened: 1. Overturned by a federal court
2. Permanent Democratic majority
3. Further growth of illegal immigration
4. California a 'minority' majority state
Based on this experience, people should try and understand that (a) illegals are not going anywhere and there will be nothing substantially done to stop further illegal immigration; (b) the Democrats are coming close to having the demographics behind them to become a permanent majority party; (c) there will increased, not less, illegal immigration; and (d) the US will become a 'minority' majority country.
Thems's the facts, and the sooner people get comfortable with them, the sooner they can get down to figuring out how to thrive in this new environment - just like CA natives have done over the last 15 years.

I think your take is right on the money, except for prediction of change in the label of the political party nominally in charge. That could be either party, DEM or GOP. That is, the Republicans may preside over the demographic shift caused by too-loose immigration, reduction in standard of living, and related effects.
All's well on the plantation.
