Freerepublic banned in Argentina (vanity)

Posted on 03/26/2006 1:38:50 PM PST by Cementjungle

This may not be of interest to many, but I found it interesting. I´m on vacation in Argentina (Buonos Aires) and have found that FreeRebublic is banned at many of the Internet Cafes.

Fortunately, I can use Remote Desktop to get to my PC at home and browse from there.

I also tried democraticunderground.com, and that does work. What did FreeRepublic.com ever do to Argentina?!

I don't know, but I heard we were banned in Boston too.
When/Where in BOS was FR banned? I'm across the river in Cambridge. The Cantabridgian govt officials, in their arrogance, probably figure anyone on the right wouldn't be smart enough to use a computer:)

The Argentinan elite are Italians who speak Spanish, think they're British, and act like Frenchmen.

Jim Rob should tag FR as porn. It'll be welcomed.

He could just post some nudes on the front page. We promise not to look.

Regarding the Falklands, in 1982 I worked with a project manager who was an Argentine national, however he had expressed the view that he hoped the British would win. Found out that he did not like the Galtieri regime. His view was that a British victory would result in Galtieri losing face, and driven out of office (which did in fact happen), and hopefully replaced by a civilian constitutional government (well, it was a bit of a rough road, to be generous).

You mean Kennedy/Kerry, et al, haven't banned us in Boston yet? We must not be trying hard enough.

I'm surprised Free Republic hasn't been banned at internet cafes in Seattle.

"Freerepublic banned in Argentina"

That's nothing. McCain is trying to ban us from America.

FR is available in Dubai...but not Michelle Malkin.

No surprise there.

...who will most likely never get over the sinking of the General Belgrano by the British sub HMS Conqueror(S48).
---
I'm sorry about the loss of life when it was sunk.
I'm also sorry that a ship that was at Pearl Harbor 12/7/41 (A/K/A U.S.S. Phoenix) was sunk that way.
But the Argentines started it...
I mean, they didn't know the Brits were coming? And they didn't have a copy of Jane's Fighting Ships?

Nope. I know a few other Boston FReepers in real life. We run into each other once in a while at our local conservative safehouse in Cambridge, or when our conservdar goes off while walking down the street.

I think that Argentina recently elected a leftist,Chavez-friendly government. That would certainly explain it.

Exactly - except that it's a curious form of Spanish, e.g. "vos" instead of "tu."

Are you sure?
I was in Dubai a couple years ago
and had no trouble reading any of the blogs.

As for Free Republic
I've posted from Turkey, North Cyprus, Dubai, and India
no problem.

Better question might be, 'What are you doing in Argentina, comrade?'
