Woman With Perfect Memory Baffles Scientists
ABC News ^ | 3/20/2006 | Lee Dye

James McGaugh is one of the world's leading experts on how the human memory system works. But these days, he admits he's stumped.

McGaugh's journey through an intellectual purgatory began six years ago when a woman now known only as AJ wrote him a letter detailing her astonishing ability to remember with remarkable clarity even trivial events that happened decades ago.

Give her any date, she said, and she could recall the day of the week, usually what the weather was like on that day, personal details of her life at that time, and major news events that occurred on that date.

The only thing she wouldn't be able to remember is the last time you actually did something right.

I think I am things I said in an argument 15 years ago as well have been said 5 minutes ago whenever things heat up. And I don't mean in the passionate sense!

I can do this with some events in my life. Honestly, I wish I couldn't remember things so well. At least not the things I wish I could forget. LOL.

I have met and worked with people who have amazing memories, but not to this point. So long as they were focused on what was happening, they remembered it. It's quite intimidating, as I ususally can't remember what I had for breakfast!

My wife remembers every time I've screwed up down to the second it happened. I'm not impressed at all.

In a moment of anger, my wife can recite any and every time I've done something she didn't like in the last 32 years.

I always thought most of your mind's memory function was related to forgetting things.  I can't imagine remembering every car that was on the road this morning on the way to work, or what every phone number I've heard was.

Sounds like a curse to me.

 it was probably sarcasm)
