Fox has just been covering student rioting in Paris over a new job measure. If anyone has more details, please post.
It was 1971 for me and they were still marching and protesting.
I could hardly get to my favorite cafe on St. Michele.
Is it the superior French health care that allowed thousands of old people to die in their homes during the heat wave?
And that booming economy........that's to be envied by us, too?
What were those unemployment figgers again??
Thanks for finding that, texian. LOVE it!
Thanks, Sarah. I was pretty sure that you would have some interesting input. I have spent some time in France, even lived there for a year, and I retain my interest in what goes on.
Notre Dame is DEFINITELY worth the trip. Hopefully, it's still standing by the time you get there......
"It's true that France's G.D.P. per person is well below that of the United States. But that's because French workers spend more time with their families."
I guess a French family spends time rioting together?
We had labor violence here in America when the Communists and socialists incited it. We enjoy pretty good labor protection laws, such as age, gender, veteran status, religion, handicap, etc. Granted that neither group in france has given much detail about the legislation. On the face of it, I would think this is to spur hiring. Since the "yoots" were claiming economic disadvantage. This looks like round two of the economic riots.
I was at Michigan State in the early 70s; it was simply more fun to demonstrate that to go to class. Believe me, I remember it well.
MSNBC will update report on the Paris riots in less than a minute.
EGGZACTLY! LOL! They spend so much time together vacationing on the Riviera that they let their poor old parents die in the heat wave.....
What's the future for a society when you lose both the lower classes (side-lined, unemployed, Muslim males in the suburbs) and the upper classes (future side-lined, privileged university students)? Who's left in a high tax, highly regulated, welfare state?
So, from '68 to '71 they were rioting? That's a kinda long time to be on the street......
The family that experiences teargas spray together, stays together? ;)
First it Iraq & N. Korea and now it's Iran!
Screw'em, They get what they deserve.
France is no friend of the USA.
Well you and the Anointed One may not like it,
but least they'll prevent the monarchists from regaining the throne.
Remember -- Once the government takes care of all people, there will be no more problems - ever.
MSNBC is reporting the US Navy is firing on Pirate ships off the coast of Ethiopia.
These people will do anything to have alternate programming to the NCAA tournament. LOL.
There are 'Union workers' involved too. And I would guess a lot of communists......
My husband attended a 'free speech rally' at UC in the early '70's, and got up there in support of our troops in Viet Nam, and got booed off the stage.
Yep. The left really believes in free speech....
