FReeper Canteen ~ What's The Origin Of Your Screenname? ~ March 16, 2006

What is the origin of your screen name? Come tell us your story.... How'd ya choose your screen name? A situation in your life? Part of a song? Your Military service?
For me, it was three times I came across "Misbehavin" that decided it for me! I bought a blouse that had that on the tag... Then my MIL gave me a book about a cat called Ms.Behavin.. Then I heard the song "Ain't Misbehavin!"
So there ya have it! Have fun! Please, no politics in The Canteen.. We want our troops to rest, relax and relate!
Now tell us YOUR story!! |

Hmm... looks interesting - want a student? :D
You have to pay attention with Japanese, too.. especially with the kanji! If you write it wrong, you can change the sentence rather drastically.. Hehe. With Romanji, it's a bit easier.. but a silly typo can also change the meaning >:D I, personally, like scribbling things in hiragana. Fufufu >:^>

I'm too large framed for a Corvette (newer ones anyway), let alone a Porsche, although I'll take one for a spin if you force me to. 8>) I'm stuck with full sized trucks and Ford Crown Vics it seems.
The wife and I had a fun time a few months ago test driving the new Mustang GT. My daughter who just finished driver's ed was drooling all over that one. I don't think so toots. Perish the thought 8>)

Jack, good evening. All your birds in good working order and ready for the new day? I hear tell there was some wind on your coast today. All well? Thanks for your service to our country.
And a snack for you. I'm headed for home in a just a few.

Can't listen - no earphones, plus my hearing's not very good.. I'm hoping hearing aids or something will boost my hearing to an acceptable-for-service level. :)

I speak from experience. That, er, "stuff" (trying to keep it clean) will clean your esophagus and sinuses. Also, it will make you lips numb on contact on make your throat burn like hellfire. Good stuff.

I know the feeling well. That is why I cannot spend nearly as much time in the Canteen as I have been able to do in the past but it's good to at least see you here for a welcome change.

That hot, sweltering griddle iron I was stuck to for the first five months in V-it-nom.
It was an LCM-6, welded ramp and canvas overhead, loaded with helmets, flak jackets, groin protectors and ammo...oh, and C-Rats!

I enjoy radio as a medium, especially talk radio and old time radio theatre.
And yes, I like Radiohead, the music group, but that was really secondary to my love of the medium.

Vietnamese is a highly tonal language. It does not suffice to learn vocabulary and grammar. True story: During one of LBJ's many visits to Saigon, the Vietnamese government hosted a diplomatic reception for him. An American embassy staffer taught him to say "I am happy to be in Viet Nam today," which is what he said to each Vietnamese citizen who came through the receiving line. Because he so totally mangled the tonalities of the sentence, what he was actually saying was "The ducks in the pond are dead." The Vietnamese diplomats and government officials kept straight faces, while their children laughed uproariously.

Spoken Vietnamese is tonal (like Chinese). For example, you can form several different words with "ba" via variations in tone and accent marks. One misspoken tone changes the meaning of a word.
It is a fun language to speak, read, and write. Also, it is great for people who want to learn an Asian language without having to learn a completely different writing system.
