Scare at the Sub Base
GROTON -- Police and fire units have set up a perimeter at the Groton Sub Base. Bomb-sniffing dogs have been also called out to the scene.
Navy authorities are providing very limited information as to what happened Monday morning.
Crystal Lake Avenue and the military highway road along the river have been blocked off by local police.
This provides access to Gate #1 where the incident involving a truck took place.
A spokesperson for the sub base tells Eyewitness news that at 6:30 a.m. Monday a Navy dog trained to sniff for explosives sensed something on a truck attempting to enter Gate #1. That's the gate near the Nautilus Museum.
The Navy immediatly shut down the base. Groton police cordoned off Crystal Lake Ave and Military Highway. Around mid morning the other gates north on Route 12 were opened.
Federal agencies are on site as is the Navy bomb squad. The Navy is not saying if anything was actually discovered or removed.
The other possibility is that this could be a drill. But they are not indicating that at this time.
We'll have more on this story on Eyewitness News starting at 5.
NTINS: In `72 I was coming in the back gate at Sub Base. I had slowed down, and the Marine motioned us through, but my buddy hollered stop. I hit the brakes and he jumped out shouting at the Marine about how ugly, stupid, and probably illegitimate he was, even for a jarhead. I was sure we were going to be shot, and the Marine looked like he was ready to shoot us both. Then a look of recognition came across his face. It turns out that they were cousins that hadn't seen each other in about a decade. I got all warm and fuzzy after the panic wore off.
I hope it is a test .. our young men and women need to be prepared for anything.
Thanks.
Bump.
Piper, isn't this just a bit coincidental:

Keep me posted if you hear any more?
I don't know what to make it of it but I didn't laugh it off like the girl who posted the rumor at TM...I mean I knew it wasn't the submarine races the guys used to try to take me to at the Chicago waterfront {which BTW I fell for the first time} but to me I wondered hey why not pillowtalk revealing alot right? Thing we do know is terrorists in this country frequent prostitutes/strippers for that is the only acceptable way to have women outside their wives.
I heard stories from my mother about WWII and alot of horror stories.
Freema? I wonder if there is someone that could help us research this theory?
M'Dear. V? How can we investigate or discover what countries may have vessels in our waters? Haven't we had things such as this when TM first started?
If the dog indicates, there is no profiling involved. The ACLU would be better off to sit this dance out.
Do you have a link to the post at TM?
Only way I could think to verify it would be to racially profile some prospective johns and sleep with them, but I make it a point not to sleep with guys who possibly sleep with sheep. Not even for money ; )
I don't have any contacts - but I will keep my eyes and ears open.
cal, do you?
(in the area or that would have info - not hoes!)
This is T.M. that JustPiper mentioned

If JustPiper doesn't get back on with the direct link, ping Cindy, she might remember.
JP, Calpernia's here.
I hope I didn't offend with stupid jokes. I was a bit punchy from the hour- our old dog had strange asthma-like attacks, thought we were going to lose him, then I couldn't sleep.
I think of an idea to see if folks in that area have heard anything strange. Don't know if it will produce anything.
I thought it was TM, took a minute for my brain to register. Thanks!
While we're on the subject, do you or anyone you know, have any information on where I'd find information on a Nepalese terrorists most wanted list?
LOL - I did once. Never did find it.
looks like the New-Tribune article has expired; here are links to some
previous mentions of the Middle Eastern-Missouri trucking connection:

Are you talking about that "civil war" that "we shouldn't be involved in?"
My husband's family is in and around Hartford -- their homes are strongholds of conservative thought. Don't wipe them out, too!
Check this out.
Hi Sarge! Oh yeah! Saved this pic ;)
