WASHINGTON - More and more people, particularly Republicans, disapprove of President Bush's performance, question his character and no longer consider him a strong leader against terrorism, according to an AP-Ipsos poll documenting one of the bleakest points of his presidency. ADVERTISEMENT
Nearly four out of five Americans, including 70 percent of Republicans, believe civil war will break out in Iraq the bloody hot spot upon which Bush has staked his presidency. Nearly 70 percent of people say the U.S. is on the wrong track, a 6-point jump since February.
"I'm not happy with how things are going," said Margaret Campanelli, a retiree in Norwich, Conn., who said she tends to vote GOP. "I'm particularly not happy with Iraq, not happy with how things worked with Hurricane Katrina."
Republican Party leaders said the survey explains why GOP lawmakers are rushing to distance themselves from Bush on a range of issues port security, immigration, spending, warrantless eavesdropping and trade, for example.

Just another biased poll.
TWELVE PERCENT MORE demonrats/indies than GOP.
Look at the poll, horrible question phrasing!
Where are their polls about Hitliary and her ILK?
And if it was balanced, you'd still see Bush with low poll numbers so we all need to get over the fact that Bush isn't well received at this time. It's not like Bush is Reagan. At least Reagan tried to reduce government involvement in our lives. Bush hasn't found a spending bill he doesn't like and has grown government to the likes that would make Hillary Clinton wet with envy (as horrible a thought as that is).
The Republican Revolution shrunk and died the day that Gingrich was caught fooling around with his mistress.
If the GOP stands firm behind GWB (see how in every MSM report they continually suggest the GOP shouldn't do this...they need to distance themselves their polls show???). But if the GOP stands firm with GOP they will win big time this November (just like in 2000, 2002 and 2004)....if those in the GOP/RNC get weak-kneed and don't stand firm with GWB (on Iraq, WOT, etc)....then they do have a good chance at losing this Nov.
Lastly, we are a long way from any election. Let the DEM's win their silly polls. We'll win at the ballot box (as long as the RNC/GOP doesn't go weak-kneed).
That is such BS for starters - Additionally Reagan would completely find it foolish that you use his name in a Vs him against a good man like GWB.
Your premise is the only thing that is "not Reagan like" here.
I don't believe the country is going in the right direction but much of it is not due to Bush.
Gay this, Gay that 24/7..... The Dems voted for the Iraq war then systematically undermined it. We have Politicians / Government employees committing treason being lauded as conscientous whistle blowers, just to name a few.
They quote ONE sheila in a nation of nearly 300 million.
Not quite a scientific sample...
"Let's eect some men who can make decisions based on their judgement not pools."
We did, and now everybody's in a panic because his numbers are low!
IMHO, if Pres. Bush's low numbers are indicative of the opinion of the majority of the electorate, he must be doing something right!
Safe to say that Bush won't be winning re-election in 08. Oh wait...
That way we can get on with life, knowing that President Bush has finally achieved lame duck status.
Of course there is always the possibility that someone could slip Dingy Harry a dagger, and he could pull an Ides of March.
"AP-Ipsos Polls are for entertainment only, they are not conducted on a scientific basis"...
Now Bush wants an immigration bill passed that will not have amnesty at all, but will allow guest workers that can stay for only a few years, and then if they're not violating the law and they're paying taxes, social security, etc, and the business hiring them follows all the laws also (IMHO a HUGE problem right now). Still, just the other day I heard this bill referred to as the "Bush Shamnesty".
...wait a minute! Methinks they're trying to pull a fast one.
To borrow an idea from Rush, what they need to do next is write an article about this poll, then do a poll on the article, then write another article about the poll, rinse, and repeat.
This is passing "absurdity," and becomeing a parody of itself.
We really are being cursed with a "Drive-By Media..."
****Republican Party leaders said the survey explains why GOP lawmakers are rushing to distance themselves from Bush on a range of issues ****
GOP lawmakers havent been helping the President since his inauguration what distance is this guy talking about?
I never saw such a bunch of pantywaists in the Congress. Cowardly pack of leeches.
Listen. There are idiots in the middle who float party registration. President Bush needs a fresh political team. His politics are sucking. We need to face reality.
20 percent of people believe in alien abductions...
New low? That's 3 points higher, or 10% improvement, than the CBS poll giving him 34% approval a week ago. At this rate, the President will be at 100% approval in 21 weeks...just in time for the November elections.
Yawn...I no longer believe ANY polls or ANY news story about ANYTHING. I prefer to hear it, and try to source the facts myself before I figure out what's going on. I get more news from RUSH, Mark Levin and Drudge (when he's not in a Bush-bashing mode which he seems to be in lately). I like to surf the net and find out what I can without using the TV news as a source. I gave up after Shep Smith, Whoralough and their ilk on cable news made a mockery of all things Katrina.
Everyone needs to remember: this is an election year and the rats have NOTHING. They are going to pull out all the stops....on nothing, to show that they are nothing, have nothing and won't win anything.
