I'm not sure why anyone is surprised- the graphic novel was written in the early 80's by a leftist who feared that Ronald Reagan would start a nuclear war and that Maggie Thatcher would turn England into a fascist dictatorship.
That being said, V for Vendetta is one of the best-written graphic novels I have ever read. I roll my eyes at is politics, but it's a heck of a story. If the movie adaptation is half as good, it is certainly worth watching, politics aside.
This has Academy Award written all over it.
Defund Hollywood, if you must see or listen to their trash, download it.

Someone needs to tell this "reviewer" that it's based on a comic book. a pretty decent one actually. The movie probably won't be any good, however.
Unfortunately the work this movie is based upon was released as a comic book in Great Britain in the early 1980s. The author even addresses the concerns, 20 years ago, of surveillance equipment (cameras) on the streets of London. And what do we have in some cities overseas today? And what do cities here in the US advocate? It doesn't have a damn thing to do specifically with Bush. What it does have to do with is an intrusive government that takes away the freedoms of the citizens in order to protect them.
Conservatives shouldn't have any problem with this movie. Republicans in their partisan beliefs may though

If I remember correctly, this is done by the same guys who turned out The Matrix, and then butchered the two sequels with politics and nihilism.
I still the The Matrix was a fluke for them - or as some reports have it - was indeed plagiarized.
Dang, I wanted to see this but this may be too obvious for me to stomach.
Some have said the Matrix Trilogy is very similar in message, but if it was, I think it was very well disguised.

get a grip, switch to decaf or something. The irony of course, is that the historical Guy Fawke is one of history's Christian (well, Catholic) terrorist who acted out of perceived religious perscution against his lot.

I'm a little disturbed by all of the references to America (which don't appear anywhere in the book), but if this movie stays true to the original story, it will be intelligent and thought-provoking, qualities sadly lacking in movies these days.

I don't know for certain as I haven't seen the movie yet, and taking into account total hatred much of hollywierd has for this country, I don't suppose the movie could be viewed in the context of the excerpted thoughts below?

Why would Natalie Portman appear in a proterrorist movie? Whatever else, she is pro-Israel and wrote politically correct editorials when she was in college.
It's just code for how Hollywood and their ilk would like to treat faithful Christians...not counting those that politicize against the War on Terror from their "puplits," of course.
I automatically assumed that anything that resembled this Administration would be considered fascist in this movie. I guess I was right.

I've just seen the movie last night, and I'll point out a few things for those who haven't seen it:
1. The US is mentioned a grand total of 3 times in the film, and only in passing.
2. The buildings that the "terrorist" V destroys are both _EMPTY OF PEOPLE_ when they are destroyed.
3. V DOES NOT TARGET OR KILL CIVILIANS.
4. The Government depicted in the movie is UNAMBIGUOUSLY EVIL.
