NORTH MIAMI
An armed assailant bent on robbing a man near a North Miami gas station Tuesday chose the wrong victim -- an armed one -- and paid with his life.
Miami-Dade police spokesman Detective Roy Rutland said instances of armed victims successfully defending themselves against armed assailants are fairly rare.
No charges will be filed against Phillips.

I'm glad that the Good Guys won one, and PI$$ED at the comment by the cop! If you get the Miami Herald, try writing a letter to the editor and make them aware of two million successful gun defenses each year....better yet how about the DOJ stat that says that in any given year about 650,000 attacks are perpetrated against potential victims armed with a handgun. Of that number about 6500 are actually carried thru to completion. That's roughly 1% So to turn it around in 99% of the cases where the victim is armed with a handgun, the crime is foiled. Typical cop mentality. Let's repeat after me: A society in which ONLY the POLICE have guns is called.....A POLICE STATE!!!
Yes, I'll be writing a letter, too. Perhaps to the Detective quoted!
Serves him right.
I love a story with a happy ending.
Guess he won't be robbing folks no more! BLAM!
Only because armed victims have been fairly rare, thanks to gun control.
I guess Floridians aren't all dumb! LOL (I say that as a former Floridan who misses my state!)
Oh, and nice shooting. So long perp.
>instances of armed victims successfully defending themselves against armed assailants are fairly rare.<
That's because not enough "victims" are armed!
If they were, a there would be a lot fewer assailants!
Armed Citizen Bump
DRUM ROLL....One less scumbag! :)
Another tragedy caused by the CCW laws. (sarc)
Citizens are armed, subjects unarmed.
Beat me to it.
he always carries 2 weapons, one in an ankle holster.
Even Batman knew to keep the Batzooka in the car.
Instances where a legally armed victim smokes the perp are rare, but I'll bet the vast majority of incidents results in the bad guy running away with a new brown stain in his trunks rather than with him in the morgue.
I wonder of this quoted cop thinks it's a good idea to look up how often cops are out drawn or out shot by perps--especially that latter. (And what his solution would be--disarm cops for their own safety?)
"....ooops...." [thud]
Doesn't Florida have the "SHOOT FIRST" law....The guy who got robbed somehow someway will end up getting tried for 1ST Degree Murder /sarc
Florida has self-defense as far as I know. Sure seems like a case of self-defense to me.
