Didn't you see the "real cops" confiscating little old ladies guns in New Orleans? They weren't feds.

IIRC those particular ninja weren't even from Louisiana!

The one who tackled the old gal wasn't. California, IIRC. At any rate a place where they aren't used to seeing law abiding old ladies with revolvers. The cops, one of whom was, IIRC, from LA, were there to try to get her to evacuate. She was trying to convince them she'd be ok, "See I have my own gun for protection". The CHIPie freaked and tackled the pluckly old lady. But they weren't there specifically to confiscate her gun, although I believe they did, at least temporarily.

IMHO, the CHIPie should have been horsewhipped and sent back to the land of fruits and nuts.

Oh, I should have added that the city of NO still hasn't admitted that guns were confiscated, and have refused to return any of them, in spite of a federal court order that they do so. Gonna get interesting when that case winds it's way up the Federal Court ladder. I assume they are filing in federal court, since the original court order was issued by a Federal district court in LA. From the NRA website:

NRA Sues Mayor Ray Nagin

Wednesday, March 01, 2006

Fairfax, VA—The National Rifle Association (NRA ) has filed a motion for contempt against the City of New Orleans, the mayor and the acting chief of police for failure to comply with a temporary restraining order, handed down September 12, 2005, ordering an end to all illegal gun confiscations.

“With looters, rapists and other thugs running rampant in New Orleans, Ray Nagin issued an order to disarm all law-abiding citizens,” declared Wayne LaPierre, NRA executive vice president. “With no law enforcement and 911 available, he left the victims vulnerable by stripping away their only means of defending themselves and their loved ones. Now Ray Nagin thinks he’s above the law, and that’s just wrong.”

Attorneys for NRA have exhausted all efforts to cooperate with the defendants, Mayor Nagin and Chief Riley, who repeatedly ignored the court’s permanent restraining order against their illegal gun confiscations.

“Ray Nagin is a colossal disappointment,” said Chris W. Cox, NRA chief lobbyist. “During a federally declared emergency, he abused his power and abandoned the very people he was sworn to protect. He took away the victims’ freedom and their basic means of self-defense during an ill-fated and perilous time.”

The motion also includes an order that all seized firearms must be returned to their rightful owners.

An armed assailant bent on robbing a man near a North Miami gas station Tuesday chose the wrong victim -- an armed one -- and paid with his life.

Good! I'm very happy that the assailant was killed and not the victim.

If you take care of the problem yourself that means there is one less criminal on the street which results in less demand for police, judges, and lawyers. It is in the best interest of those three parties to have a decent crime rate in order to keep them employed. I call in conflict of interest.
