Do you remember the day you found out one of your role models was imperfect? Perhaps you saw your mom punish the wrong sibling for breaking a vase, or you heard your kindergarten teacher swear. Im finding myself just as disillusioned right now with several of our nations prominent Christians.
An impressive list of evangelical Christian leaders has recently signed onto the Evangelical Climate Initiative (ECI), a statement calling for Americans to do what they can to combat climate change.
Some of the statement seems reasonable and biblical. Yes, Christians are called to be stewards of the earth. Yes, were charged with caring for the poor. Yes, we want to stand for what is right, and even get involved politically when an opportunity arises. These assertions are agreed upon by nearly all evangelical Christians.

It is probably a good idea for Christians to think very carefully about anything promoted or taught by (sometimes) self-appointed "evangelical" (really?) "leaders." These people have developed quite a track record for chasing the latest fad and making money from book and merchandise sales in the process. Remember the absurd Y2K scare promoted endlessly by "evangelical leaders?"
I think there are even people who are convinced that one of the criteria for getting into heaven is whether or not you recycled your tin cans.
Religious leaders should stick to spiritually leading their flock and stay the hell out of politics.
Evangelicals should focus their warming concerns somewhat "lower" than global.
The Kyoto accord would only slow the warming by about 7/10th's of a degree, and at a very high price.
Wouldn't "global warming" allow poor countries to FARM more??? What a farce these people are involved in......like we could DO something about "global Warming".
Someone help me out here...
Isn't "The Road to Hell is Paved..." a biblical quote?
No, not in the Bible, but the Bible does tell us to put our faith in God and not in men.
From the article:
Some of the bigger surprises on the list of signatories include:
* Dr. Rick Warren, author of The Purpose Driven Life
* Dr. Jack Hayford, television/radio evangelist
* David Neff, editor of Christianity Today
* Dr. Peter Borgdorff, executive director of the Christian Reformed Church
* Clive Calver, former president of World Relief
* Richard Stearns, president of World Vision
* Commissioner W. Todd Bassett of the Salvation Army
* Michael Nyenhuis, president of MAP International
* Dr. Timothy George, well-known author
* Countless Christian college and university presidents, including those heading up Wheaton College (IL), Calvin College (MI), and Gordon College (MA)
amen
Are you accusing Rick Warren of being WRONG?? How dare you?!
(/sarcasm)
Yes, I forgot for a moment that Rick is on a par with none other than our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Himself, and God is showing the world how to "do church" now through Rick's shallow books and crummy Bible paraphrases.
How did the Lord ever get His plan off the ground without Rick?
What would happen if we were too good at implementing Kyoto? Global cooling? I love to put that question to the true believers. Have yet to hear a cogent answer.
Not to turn this into a Rick Warren thread, but I have to agree. His writing is VERY shallow. I read twelve chapters of The Purpose Driven Life and was left with the same feeling I get when eating cotton candy. And for Pete's sake, why does someone need to use 45 different Bible translations to make a point? And what was the point, besides God has a purpose for your life?
Give me R.C. Sproul any day.
Answer: Because Mr. Warren does not teach what the Word of God says, but shops versions/perversions looking for one that agrees with his so called "Philosophy of Ministry" or whatever other quirky non-biblical "truth" he is trying to foist upon his spiritually ignorant adherents. Mr. Warren has "itching ears" he heaps unto himself/shops "translations" (I use that term VERY loosely) in accord with his own views.
He can not stick to one translation because if he did, his adoring public would see that his interpretations/teaching points are for the birds/cotton candy; all feel good fluff with no lasting or genuine spiritual substance.
As for my qualifications to make such an assessment; fee free to e-mail me and they will be provided.
Oh, I hate to see the Salvation Army on this list.
What do you expect from these people? Reason isn't in their process... so what's another myth to believe?
" one of the criteria for getting into heaven is whether or not you recycled your tin cans."
And the problem with thinking that is what?
It is written in the Book of Reynolds (that's the Bible Book right after Revelation)
"From the earth comes the drink container, he who throws it away will perish"
