Al Qaeda warned the government of the United Arab Emirates more than three years ago that it "infiltrated" key government agencies, according to a disturbing document released by the U.S. military. The warning was contained in a June 2002 message to UAE rulers, in which the terror network demanded the release of an unknown number of "mujahedeen detainees," who it said had been arrested during a government crackdown in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.
The explosive document is certain to become ammunition for critics of the controversial UAE port deal, who fear the Dubai-based firm could be used by terrorists to sneak money and personnel into the United States.
Little is known about the origins or authorship of the message.
"You are well aware that we have infiltrated your security, censorship and monetary agencies, along with other agencies that should not be mentioned," the message said.
"Therefore, we warn of the continuation of practicing . . . policies which do not serve your interest and will only cost you many problems that will place you in an embarrassing state before your citizens.
"Your homeland is exposed to us. There are many vital interests that will hurt you if we decided to harm them."
The document was among a batch of internal al Qaeda communications captured by U.S. forces in the war on terror.

Lots of reasons to look closely at this deal... we have the time - we're not desperate.
According to Press Guy Scott Mac, this was all reviewed and the President asked all the departments if there was a problem and they said no. Besides he just recently found out about this semi-secret deal in return for use of UAE military bases and ports for our carrier group. (Source; Whitehouse briefing)
According to the President, UAE is one of the strongest supporters of the WOT despite the fact that they supported AQ up until 9-11, contributed two of the terrorist of 9-11, CONTINUALLY GIVE money to the Iraqi insurgents, recognized the Taliban until the US routed them, bankrolls Hamas and served as their media proxy, is a major port corridor for opium and other illegal drugs which finances jihads, and refuses to recognize Israel.
Let's be careful not to be xenophobic and get our facts straight. Let's not be racist--the British company that controlled our ports before (oh you didn't know the US doesn't control dockside activity in six of its major ports--shows you how racist and uninformed you all are) the Brits may secretly be our enemy as well even if they are not fanatical and support worlwide terrorism. It's our racism that blinds us to PRINCIPLE. This deal is right based on PRINCIPLE.
I suggest you all visit the UAE in Abu Dabi and have the Prime Minister wine and dine you to allay your fears. Then you can tour the Dubai port facilities in your own personal convoy of Maybacks. You will see this port deal is good for the global economy and you will find Al Queda a whimsical farce.

It's liberals who play the race card. It's like telling someone in Salem that someone might think they're a witch ... Telling people they might be "racist" is the attack of a bully. Let's debate this deal on it's merits, not on fear of being "racist" or "not being liked" or "too stupid to know the Coast Guard does security". Let's look at the deal. They need us as much, if not more, than we need them. I don't want to see the Republican Party destroyed over a business deal. If the Dubai thing can be worked out in a fair and safe fashion, fine. If not, fine. Quit acting so, so, like a desperate liberal, (ooohh they won't like us, ooohh oohh, you're a racist etc.) it's pathetic.

I was quite surprised and dissapointed to see him so vehemently defend the port deal that he didn't even see before hand. I am confused about this. Just something is up! I trust my gut 99% of the time, and regret NOT trusting it the other 1%. I don't like this and I'm confused and questioning Bush for the first time regarding national security.

You really want to gamble on that with our national security? A GOVERNMENT OWNED COMPANY, a government that has been sympathetic and complacent in helping Al Queda attack us in the past will be in charge of knowing the ins and outs of our port security procedures, and we have this intellegence that says Al Queda are IN the government...

I give an example. Someone steals from you. They apologize and are very very nice to you for a few years after stealing from you. So then are you going you going to let them housesit? I wouldn't.

COSCO is a government owned company that has run our ports for years. Somehow, we have survived. The UAE did not help Al Qaeda attack us in the past anymore than Germany, Switzerland or even ourselves. Remember that every one of the terrorists involved in 9/11 were in this country legally and many received their flying training here. Should we ban trade with ourselves? And we have absolutely no intelligence that says Al Qaeda is in their government. What we have is a 4 year old Al Qaeda propaganda statement published by a group a terrorists furious that the UAE was being so helpful to the West (and especially the US) in fighting terrorism.
