I had to look the Dickcissel up..I don't think I have ever seen one..but they would more likely be seen where there are fields..

Years Ago, my Father-in-Law would Plant Wheat on his Property, and Every Spring his Fields would be just Filled with these Little Birds! Most of them Sang the Regular Dickcissel Song, but there were Always a Few that would Vary, Singing in Very High Pitches, or Very Low Ones, and Varying the Amount of "Chees" in their Melodies, and the Cadance in which they would Sing.
If you are Ever Driving Around on a Dirt Road at the End of April/Early May, you can Spot them Sitting on the Fence Posts, as that Web Site Said, Singing their Little Hearts Out.

Corner of roof is still missing but yard is the biggest problem now--not really worried about it yet--will worry when things warm up and start to grow.

In Greensboro, NC we wanted to build a house and scoured 4 surronding counties (lower taxes than Guilford County) for a site with full woods.
Finally, in Randolph County, 9 miles below Forest Oaks Country Club where the big Greensboro Golf Golf Open is played every Spring, we found *The Right One.*
Two miles off the super slab in an area of rollinghills/woods/farmlands, just off the road to Ramseur was one with a tiny church - then four wooded lots of an acre or more, all on a sloping hill looking down on the road, before farmlands and scattered a few fairly new houses.
The four lots (and larger ones across the road) had just gone on the market, and the builder let us walk them to see if we wanted one. I chose the second one of 1.34 acres because all the trees except for two pines in the back and one cypress tree were beautiful hardwoods!
Unlimited good firewood, and so beautiful..:))
It was ideally situated, with the sun rising from one end of the house and setting on the other, so no afternoon light hit the living area to create undue summer heat inside,
John even allowed me to select the very spot for the house - and stake and string it out myself just as I wanted it. There were NO restrictions as to where/how far back from the road! That was 170 feet, and much farther to the back (just where a block long road ended), and I found the perfect tree to have by the driveway/sidewalk to the front steps of the house...a huge tree that began as one trunk, and promptly soared up with three branching up!
I therefore saw it as "Trinity Woods."
Furthermore, in the back of that house site was the perfect tree to incorporate in the back deck addition off the dining room we envisioned. There was an entry there of a 6' by 10' landing off the drive's end, and we knew we could build off that to go around the tree and beyond..:))
We eventually did just that, adding sections twice to make it 17' x 30' out.
To get onto it, I designed four very broad steps a foot wide (where you stepped on it), and 12 feet across, so they could be used for seating - for eating, playing board games, etc., flanked with pots of colorful flowers and rails.
Bernie made all kinds of benches and Adirondack seating, including tete-a-tete chairs.
Extra wide top rails let us scatter bird seed all around the three sides, as well as out on the ground for the mourning doves - who insisted on theirs there..:)) Bird bath, of course, for water, in addition to the small creek in the back.
From the dining room table, the glass doors let us watch the sun slant across the scene from the East in the morning, to the setting rays across from the West in the evening....and in the hot summer, watch millions of fireflies (lightning bugs) decorate the landscape.
Also great to view the snow and ice that fell often in winter...
No one believes the night we watched lacelike, PANCAKE-SIZED individual snowflakes drift down past the floodlights, both in front and in back of the house!!

Oh for Pete's sake. I had to read the whole thread backward. It was just too interesting!! All the flowers and pancake snowflakes!!!!!!!!!!!
All the boys are out- Sunday dinner tomorrow, and then nephew will return home. I can't wait to pick up where we left off!

That next day in 1986 was a Saturday, and we drove all over the back county roads to see the beautiful vistas, going first to Asheboro for breakfast, and then southeast from there to Siler City, where "Aunt Bee" of Mayberry fame was from and retired.
Bernie spotted a barber shop, and while he was in there, I walked the main street, looking in little stores.
Problem was, I hadn't eaten enough to balance the amount of insulin I had injected, and I had a very severe insulin reaction, rapidly getting to full blackout phase.
My car was parked a block and a half away, where my cola and candy stash was, and I had to fight like crazy to reach it - and survival.
Struck me if I had dropped on the sidewalk there, no one would know me or my problem, and I the next week obtained a MedicAlert bracelet that I wear to this day.
Would *you* want on *your* epitaph,
"Dropped dead near Aunt Bee's Home"??!!

A year after that, I wasn't far from Siler City, myself!!
And I'm ALWAYS worried about what Hubby will put as my epitaph LOLOLOL!
My gram was an Aunt B : ) and looked like her too!
And, I'll have you know, I just remembered I have a dinner plate sized snowflake! I'll be darned! On a trip 'home', many years ago we stopped in Amish Country to eat supper. There were the most beautiful crocheted doilies for sale that reminded me of snowflakes because of the intricacies in their patterns. I kid you not!! What's more, I framed it on a black background, because of this guy:

Ashpenaz, a high court official in ancient Babylon, was committed to banishing any testimony of Israel's God from his kingdom. His strategy focused on young leadership from the captive Hebrews. Ashpenaz gave the captives new names to honor the pagan gods of Babylon. This made sense to him, because their original Hebrew names honored their God (Daniel 1:6).
But the life choices of those captives were a far more powerful witness than any label put on them. When faced with a literal trial by fire, the young men would not bow down and worship the golden idol. Instead, they accepted the punishment of being cast into the fiery furnaceconfident in God's sovereignty and care (ch.3).
Do you know unbelievers who try to pressure you to fit in with their lifestyle? If you don't party with them, follow a questionable business practice, or laugh at an offensive joke, do you get the cold shoulder? People may even call you names because you won't run with their crowd. But when you're rejected because of your loyalty to God, you can live in a way that honors the Father.
It doesn't matter what others call us. How we live our lives before God does. What's important is that we always let our light shine. Dennis Fisher
