Welcome to TGIF at the Finest!   We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. "Wear Red" Friday

You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.

Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.

I have to cheat and buy them already grown in pots and then transplant. :) I had them in my window boxes one year for spring. Unfortunately, they don't last very long here.

Hello everyone!!!

FReeper LS & Jeff Head's Newly released book...a novel about 911

Well, I just got in. I decided to do some more yard clean up as I burned a pile of tree limbs, etc. I have not burned since Labor day & had a sizeable pile. I went out about 7 AM & was out until about 12:15. so that was a lot of physical work. Josy helped me by taking out tree limbs that I put into the burn pile..She would drag them around the yard. Toby is a "roamer" so I had to keep him on a long lead. Josy sticks with me pretty closely (for now)

It is just a drop in the bucket of clean up, but it is a start & now I will have the pile somewhat reduced. The large tree came down last summer.. that has been a big mess to clean up. Some of the easy stuff was burned Labor day. By today, more had dried up so I could break off limbs.. Still a long way to go. Supposed to rain perhaps later & so wanted to get the job done first. Will feed mom/me & then take dogs out for exercise.

Didn't wear gloves(stupid) and my hands are full of blisters, cuts & stain(pine)

Dinner & movie date tonight.

Not sure when I will have computer time.. not looking good today - I have a couple projects to do.. BUT it is nice now (mid 40s) and the temps will be dropping & rain coming later.. so outside, while I can.

How sweet of you, Meggsie...my love of flowers began in a South Florida childhood, with infinite, colorful variety abounding.
Our next door neighbor was a lovely widow lady originally from Charleston, and although she had difficulty walking and 'doing,' she still had to have rows of flowers along the side of her front yard.
At ages 5 to 9, many evenings I would go out @ 7 p.m. to help her weed and work them. She'd edge her little stool along, and I'd provide leg/bending work..:) She had tall rows of colorful cosmos, and several shades/type of marigolds filling the bed, plus edging, with baby's breath, argeratum, etc.
[She'd have her radio playing in the window, and I got hooked on the evening serial, One Man's Family, about a very wholesome one.]

As life turned out, her son, Bill, went off to WWII as a tailgunner on B-23s, out of England over Europe. Not too long after his return at the end of the war, he married my older sister, Anne, so Miss Willa really became part of My Family!

Living in so many places, I came to know and appreciate all kinds - like lilacs, from South Dakota and Virginia (bush by the house where I lived when my Kevin was born) north through Rochester, NY (2 years there), where there was a large park with The Lilac Festival each May...

In South Dakota, there were miles of HUGE fields of giant sunflowers out on the plains, and in the mountain meadows by Rapid City, that summer I was very pregnant with our daughter, so I usually was parked with the picnic basket in one by a stream, while the boys (7 & 8) and Dad roamed the ridges. My faithful little dog, Shadow, would follow them a bit; circle back to check on me; back and forth..:))
It was a glorious time, reading and relaxing (even dozing) in the sunshine.

I supported several nurseries in North and South Carolina, in my glory..:)) Having to greatly scale back now, I still get my fill. My snowbells are at full height now, blooming for a month now; my pansies continue to flourish - and many other Spring things are out in the landscape...first Bradford pear tree blosoms seen this past week; buds fat on the dogwoods, etc.

As for birds, many varieties are plentiful here all year long...mocking birds (always one nesting and singing in the hedge below my bedroom window), blue jays, cardinals (one was singing on the house wire this a.m.), robins, woodpeckers, mourning doves, crows, little yellow and red dudes, plus others seasonally; hummingbirds, starlings, etc.) - and at the house we had on the lake a mile from here, geese and mallard ducks, herons, hawks, big owls, and even seen a few times - a magnificent resident bald eagle!

I could never enjoy living in a city asphalt jungle again..:(

I got the gold, silver, and bronze medals at the Bridge! Also, I was the judge.

I have not seen these(wallflowers) and I found this on a London gardeners page..I saw yellow,blue and orange ones,too. There is a band called the Wallflowers and that slows the search!LOL!

There are Many Birds Here where I am at the King's Ranch, and I am Always Joyful when Migrating Flocks Stop to Forage for Food. Most of the Day, I have my Blinds Up in Every Room in the House, so I can Look Out at Any Time and Observe the Activities of the Birds and Squirrels. A Few Times, Meadowlarks and Robins have Completely Surrounded the House, and Some of them are Always Singing their Sweet Songs.

There's Some Kind of little Bi-Colored Birds that are Here Frequently, and they have the Cutest Feet, Lol! They Walk Around on the Deck, and come Right Up to the Dining Room Windows; that's how I Saw their Feet. One Incredible Moment Recently was when Seven Male Cardinals were Foraging at the Same Time Beneath the Pecan Trees; what a Lovely Sight!

Those Wallflowers are Beautiful, Meg, Similar in Color to Some Petunias I have Been Using as Houseplants this Winter, Lol! I've Enjoyed the Lovely Purple Color During Many Dreary and Cold Days, but I Keep having to Rinse Aphids off the Leaves, which is not Fun. :(

Beuatiful Bird. You know I really regret not taking an ornithology class. I know so little about birds. I recall as a biology major, it was one of many options..I tended to take more of the botany ones as you didn't have to kill/cut on things

What a Beautiful Bird, So Pretty! I've only Seen a Bird Once that could Possibly have Been a Bunting; it was Sitting on a Fence So Far Away I couldn't Get a Good Enough Look at it to Identify it! But it was a Bird that was Bunting-Sized, and was Wearing a 'Coat of Many Colors!'

I'm Looking Forward to the Arrival of what my Grandma Used to Call "Chee-Chee Birds," because that's what they Seem to Be Singing, "Chee, Chee Chee." I Love their Songs, and they are a very Cute Bird, Also.

No, this is just a Little Piece of Property that I Purchased a Few Years Ago, that I Wanted a Special Name for, because it's So Lovely to me. I Settled Upon 'The King's Ranch,' Naming it After our Beloved King of Heaven.

It has Many Trees, a Nifty Creek, and Several Small Ponds on it, and I had Many an Enjoyable Day Hiking through the Woods, Until Awhile Ago when I Injured my Back.

I Hope I'll Get to Put my Hiking Boots Back On One Day in the Future! :)
