A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest! We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.
Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.
received this in my email June 10th, the author is unknown. I am wearing red today and every Friday ~ Billie

Just Amy. I just LOL big time! Maybe that's why when I did a search, I couldn't find the bulbs I wanted. Google didn't come up with the correct spelling. I did so many searches because the bulbs are not available here. Maybe the next search with ranunculus will work better than ranuculous. LOL :) I really get a big kick out of this. Thanks!:)

Great to see you, Nan. How's Emma? Keeping you hopping? This picture was taken almost two years ago.
I'm not much of a gardener, either. I enjoy working in the yard in the spring but when the hot weather gets here, forget it. :)
I really liked my pink ranuculus; I had pink ones planted with daffodils. This year, I'll have lots of yellow but very little pink. :(

LOL
I've seen it several times but was really not sure how to spell it. Finally decided to go to the gardening book. :)
When I did the spell check on the post, it tried to get me to change it but the choices were not flowers.

Ms Em is doing fine. She's getting into everything and running Grammy ragged.
Those flowers are beautiful. I don't think they grow in this area. At least I haven't seen any. We get tulips, daffodils and hyasinths (sp) in the spring. We have a way to go yet till spring. It's still getting down to 20 degrees at night.

I am glad you asked what they were because I had no idea either but then I thought maybe they were something that all Americans would know but were not known or known by a different name in Britain. I think it is the former as I cannot remember ever seeing anything quite like that but it looks very beautiful.

Here is a close-up of a ranunculu.
I checked and ranunculus is plural.
There will be NO test! :)

I have just done a UK google search and only found 3 references 2 of which were Wedgwood plates selling on ebay. That is a plate with flowers painted on it and they do look a bit like yours.
The other was a plant catalog that stated one reference for the plant in the mid 90s.
So I think we can safely say it is not normally found in England

Look Back
We have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end. Hebrews 3:14
|
What was wrong with the ancient Israelites? Why did they have such trouble trusting God? In Hebrews 3, we're reminded that they heard God's promise yet refused to believe. I think I know whywe have the same problem today.
God provided for the people on their desert march. They would be satisfied and happy for a while, but then a new crisis would arise. They would stare ahead at their wall of trouble, become frightened, and lose faith.
Before Moses went up the mountain to get instructions from God, the Israelites had recently defeated the Amalekites. Things were going fine. But when Moses stayed on the mountain too long, the people panicked.
Instead of looking back and recalling that God could be trusted, they looked ahead and saw nothing but the possibility of a leaderless future. So they sought to create "gods that shall go before us" (Exodus 32:1). Their trust was blocked by a fear of the future when it could've been solidified with a simple look back at God's deliverance.
Likewise, our obstacles appear huge. We need to look back and reassure ourselves by recalling what God has already done on our behalf. That backward look can give us forward confidence. Dave Branon
I have learned to love my Savior,
And I trust Him more each day;
For no matter what the trial,
He will always be my stay. Hess
Fear hinders faith, but trust kindles confidence.

The gophers love them. I plant mine close to the house because we don't seem to get many off the little critters close.
You can bet that if I go to a nursery that I will find something to buy. :)
