But I'm not willing to take a chance on my children's lives for moneyIMO the most deadly way for terrorists to attack a major American city would be a dirty bomb or large chemical or bio weapon on a ship-borne container. I don't want ANY Islamic country having control over any of of ports for that reason - all it takes is a couple of sleepers working their way up in the management structure to be sure to not find the weapon when it arrives.

IMO, the veto "promise" has got to be related to a key national security issue, i.e., the Iranian nuclear weapons program.

The Prez says we live in a dangerous world. He might also say that we don't know much about the world we live in. His training is in history rather than law, and Congress is mostly lawyers rather than philosophers. Who do you trust, one who works any side of an issue depending who is paying him, or one who possibly sees historical trends that no one else is privy to? Blind faith? Not really.

I keep reminding myself that President Bush told us that thing would look weird during this war on terror- but that we had to have faith in him. I disagree with this on its face- but I do have faith in the President and this administration.
I am not a Bush Bot- but I think I am going to take the stand that I have no idea what this is all about.

Why does Bush always do this? He does things like proclaim Harriet Miers will go forward, and then a week later, nothing has changed but he changes direction.

I have a thought on this. I believe that Bush really doesn't want the Arabs to take this over and he knew if he came out against it he would catch flak from the liberals for discrimination. Therefore he came out for it knowing it would be contested in Congress and that they would bipartisanlly vote it down.

One DOES NOT HAND OVER IMPORTANT PORTS, VIOLATING ONE'S NATIONAL SECURITY to a country to keep them engaged. the ports were already run by the British
To: Pimpmygop
Its very simple, he is sticking to his guns reguardless of what anyone thinks.. Further shows that he is a man of his word - if its popular or not. It also shows he doesnt care about polls what so ever, which I think is great. I dont think the deal will pass (they will prob have enough votes to override his veto), but he stuck with it. So say he decided today to totally suspend the bill of rights (more than it is now)? Would you be as impressed with his intractability?

My thoughts exactly. If he really said that, and I have no reason to doubt he did, then he has proven himself to be completely out of touch with those he is supposed to serve.
For god's sake all of our problems with terrorists have originated in the middle east. To not be willing to acknowledge that fact is disturbing to me.

Did anyone else here see President Bush speak on this (on Fox News) a few minutes ago?
He said the Dubai company would NOT be in charge of port security, that that would rest with the Coast Guard and Customs.
