If Sen. John McCain runs for president in 2008, fellow Republican Susan Collins of Maine will serve as one of his Senate advisors.
A spokesman for Sen. Collins confirmed that McCain asked her if she would be one of his advisors if he decides to seek the White House. The spokesman, Kevin Kelley, said Collins told McCain that he would.
The Arizona senator is regarded as a likely potential candidate for the Republican nomination.

"I WILL blame it on the "our way or the highway" crowd".
Are you sure this does not describe you? I'm not tearing the Republican Party apart, just resisting liberal efforts to that end.

Are you suggesting that we should back him because, otherwise, he might decide to play a third party spoiler role to screw us? Negative...I will never back McCain. I'm just trying to see all the possibilities that could happen. If he does play 3rd party spoiler, we better have a darn good candidate on the Republican ticket.

If I ran for anything, I would state that I stand for such and such and such and such. If you believe what I believe, vote for me. God, I hate politicking. Just like my dad who said "Don't EVER call me a politician!" He served his county and town for over 30 years. Because he loved working for his town and county. Period.

I'll advise him today. Don't run. Don't even think of running. If you do, the Republican party will splinter as sure as rain falls from the sky.

Sounds like the Catechumens should be praying for you. If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything. Leave religion to the churches. This is about politics. McCain is not good for the Republican party.

If McWeasel won the nomination, I'd vote for him over a Dim but I sure wouldn't want to make that choice.

I think it can be better to lose with principle than to win so compromised that you don't recognize your viewpoints in the candidate.
It was better to lose with Goldwater (who's losing ideas became the party's eventually winning ideological core) than to win with a RINO like Rockefeller....MUCH better.
(This is not to say that it is not possible to be so rigid you become politically ineffecitve. It is possible, and it is a danger.)

Looks like McCain is planning to sidestep the Republican primaries altogether and start wooing the moderate voters who already support him. Perhaps he is hoping if he can kiss enough MSM butt the media will just report he won, no matter the result, or delay the result long enough to get a lawsuit going.
In 1996 Bob Dole was able to lock in endorsements and campaign money, quickly and easily because of a lifetime of freindships and the likelyhood that Dole would either be President or Senate Majority leader after the elections.
McCain has many fewer allies within the GOP. His main source of power is the junk media. That ain't gonna get him the GOP primary wins 'cause the GOP base don't watch junk media.

Seems to me the ones who want tear the Republican Party apart are the ones trying to turn it into a religion with dogma. The Republicans win when they stand for something.
The RINOs are self-serving, double-crossing backstabbers who love to damage the Republican party in order to ingratiate themselves with the Marxist media.

I will salute with pride President McCain :-)Better to not hope for that. McCain is an enemy of free speech. A President McCain could move to return the Fairness Doctrine and regulate web sites like this one.

The Republicans win when they stand for something.Absolutely!
I post mostly drivel on this board but my allusion to Goldwater/Rockfeller in 1964 is spot-on as a historical precedent. /self-promotion

A "likely potential" candidate. LOL.
If she's just going to advise him on how to carry her home state, fine. If not, poof. Bad move if he wants to win the nomination.

Good. Just the thing to get the conservative base even more firmly against McCain. I myself used to like McCain a lot, before I became conservative!
