Sen. Collins Would Advise McCain in 2008

If Sen. John McCain runs for president in 2008, fellow Republican Susan Collins of Maine will serve as one of his Senate advisors.

A spokesman for Sen. Collins confirmed that McCain asked her if she would be one of his advisors if he decides to seek the White House. The spokesman, Kevin Kelley, said Collins told McCain that he would.

The Arizona senator is regarded as a likely potential candidate for the Republican nomination.

If I ran for anything, I would state that I stand for such and such and such and such. If you believe what I believe, vote for me. God, I hate politicking. Just like my dad who said "Don't EVER call me a politician!" He served his county and town for over 30 years. Because he loved working for his town and county. Period.

I think it can be better to lose with principle than to win so compromised that you don't recognize your viewpoints in the candidate.

It was better to lose with Goldwater (who's losing ideas became the party's eventually winning ideological core) than to win with a RINO like Rockefeller....MUCH better.

(This is not to say that it is not possible to be so rigid you become politically ineffecitve. It is possible, and it is a danger.)

Looks like McCain is planning to sidestep the Republican primaries altogether and start wooing the moderate voters who already support him. Perhaps he is hoping if he can kiss enough MSM butt the media will just report he won, no matter the result, or delay the result long enough to get a lawsuit going.

In 1996 Bob Dole was able to lock in endorsements and campaign money, quickly and easily because of a lifetime of freindships and the likelyhood that Dole would either be President or Senate Majority leader after the elections.

McCain has many fewer allies within the GOP. His main source of power is the junk media. That ain't gonna get him the GOP primary wins 'cause the GOP base don't watch junk media.
