Calvina Fay of the Drug Free America Foundation has pulled out as a speaker at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), which begins in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, because a “mini-debate” she was scheduled to appear in had been stacked against her. As it now stands, the event will feature two advocates of drug legalization, both of them funded by leftist billionaire and anti-Bush activist George Soros.
Having put most of the left-wing political movement and many liberal Democrats on his payroll, it is apparent that Soros is now working to manipulate the conservative movement. It is surprising that CPAC is facilitating his scheme.
A convicted inside trader who specializes in manipulating the currencies of the nations of the world, Soros is usually depicted as a “philanthropist” who believes in an “Open Society.” Hence, the name of his major funding mechanism, the Open Society Institute. In the Soros view, of course, an “open society” means encouraging behavior that undermines the traditional values and culture of America. This is hardly “conservative.”

Damned Shame, but Money talks, and Soros has lots of it.
Legalising drugs is a stupid idea, but its amazing, some here in Free Republic would like to see it.

Obviously, Libertarians are not conservatives. If they were Soros would want nothing to do with them.
He was a philospher, but decided to change careers in order to make some money.
Demonizing plants is the height of stupidity and heresy to boot.
What is amazing is that freedom loving Republicans cannot prevent government from using force and coercion to impose upon individuals arbitrary puritanical beliefs that are contrary to established religious facts, beliefs and scripture. Herb is not evil because no thing is evil. Any attempt to demonize things is just a reincarnation of the Manichaean heresy. Our government should not be in the business of enforcing heresy as state policy. The War on Drugs in an unholy war and an unconstitutional one because it is a war upon a portion of our own citizenry for the religious and spiritual beliefs to which they adhere.

FWIW, quite a few conservatives are in favor of ending or at least winding down the War on Drugs. For instance, that's the editorial position of National Review.
Neither are Republicans.
There are some well-known conservative voices raised in support of drug legalization, so the idea deserves some debate. However, allowing Soros' cronies into CPAC is like inviting Jeffrey Dahmer to a potluck.
Surprising indeed. I'd like to hear CPAC's take on the idea. I know Cheney spoke to CPAC last year...I'm a bit skeptical that Soros is "infiltrating" the conservative movement...sounds a bit tin foil to me...but if the moveon.org sugar daddy is trying to creep in, we ought to know.
Now then, is he just funding one or two speakers or is he becoming part of the entire organization?
