Should we start a FR "Buy Danish" campaign?
HNN ^ | feb 5 2006 | self

John Zimmerman is right. The Muslim countries have chosen to pressure liberal little Denmark in order to teach the media and governments, which stand by them, a lesson which does not bode well for free speech or satire. Kuwait has joined the Saudi boycott (the Saudi market alone is worth 1.2 billion) and I suspect the rest will follow. So, here is a plea from my Danish friends:

"If you Americans look with this great sympathy on our case, couldn't you then raise a consumer support of DK in the US? The opposite of a boycott. A movement of: "Buy Danish!" Please?

Buy online:

"Some of the best things come in pairs; we at The Gourmet Food Store think three is a better number. So we offer three of the best Danish cheeses in the market: Danish Fontina, Havarti Creamy, and Saga Blue. Havarti Creamy, Denmark’s most famous cheese, is semi-soft and tangy, ideal for sandwiches. Danish Fontina, creamy and smooth, is perfect for fondues and as a spread. Or try the extraordinary Saga Blue, a magnificently rich cheese, incredibly versatile and more subtle than other blues."

After about six, your Danish improves too. Watch out for Carlsberg Elefant Øl. It indeed kicks like an Elephant. You must also chase with Aalborg Akvavit out of the freezer. There is a special ceremony or two required for Danish food and drink.

I have a cousin who claims that Amberjack are delicious, but most folks don't like them. Larger amberjacks (such as the one in the photo, which weighed about 50 pounds) often get large parasitic worms in their flesh. The one in the photo was returned to the sea after the picture was taken.

Members of the jack family vary in their table quality. Jack crevalles and horse-eye jacks are inedible. Pompano, at the other end of the scale, are gourmet fare. Blue runners and Pacific yellowtail are also quite good, and are often found on the menu in sushi restaurants. I'm particularly fond of yellowtail.

Tømmermand. Direct translation means "Hammer Man" or Carpenter. I guess it means you feel a hammering in your head the next day. Yes I know.

Say it like this: Jeg har tømmermand!

Mrs. jimfree and I are up for this. We haven't yet found the Danish cookies tin or the Dak hams. We'll keep looking. If you know a store that features these products we would appreciate the word.

Aplha Black Zero is a Danish cmputer game which casts you as the leaders of a Marine squad. You need a bear of a system to run it though.

Hitman series of computer games is also from there.
