Good morning, all.
Join us today for the final victory lap, the vote to "confirm Samuel Alito, of New Jersey, to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court."
It's all over except the final vote tally.
Lots of surprises yesterday at the HUGE vote to impose cloture, so perhaps there are still some surprise votes to come?

AMEN - and I would like to add:
Lord, while for all mankind we pray
Of every clime and coast,
Oh, hear us for our native land,
The land we love the most!
Lord of the nations, thus to Thee
Our country we commend.
Be Thou her Refuge and her Trust,
Her everlasting Friend.

Is it true that the president will render the oath? Usually, the Chief Justice administers the oath. In the case of current CJ Roberts, there was no sitting CJ, so the Senior Justice (Stevens) administered Roberts' oath.

read it as "talking Specter up now". :-) Well.....Mitch McConnell did thank Specter for doing a great job, when he introduced him.

And well they should! I think Sen Sessions pointed out today on the Senate floor that the liberal Senators want foreign judges to make our laws. Heck, they want a socialist society, take way law enforcement altogether. Anarchists!

Guys like Alito are absolutely enamoured with legislative intent, with the Legislature deciding law. If we want to have a progressive society, we have to elect legislatures and executives to do so. If we cannot, then we will have to move or accept that this is a predominantly center-right country and try to carve out progressive enclaves within it.I think I know some of the methods involved in creating a "progressive" society: re-education of the masses, obliteration of Christianity on earth, and firing squad.

MY fantasy for today is that in light of the venom spewed by the Dems that Alito be sworn in ON THE SENATE FLOOR immediately after the vote. :-) Mine is that he will be sworn in during the State of Union address, before the Joint Session of Congress.

How about a LIVE (separate) thread for the swearing in ceremony?

And just keep in mind that LIEberman was part of the cabal that was prepared in advance to disqualify the military vote in Florida.
That military vote was never counted.
