Good morning, all.
Join us today for the final victory lap, the vote to "confirm Samuel Alito, of New Jersey, to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court."
It's all over except the final vote tally.
Lots of surprises yesterday at the HUGE vote to impose cloture, so perhaps there are still some surprise votes to come?

Perhaps we should now stop in gratitude and recognition of the role of Divine Providence, once again, in the affairs of this nation. Done. Big Thanks to the Ultimate Judge!

I just heard on CNN that 2,000 pregnant women died just now as a result of not being able to get an abortion! Bush's fault! Did CNN mention the 46,000,000 babies that have already been aborted?

Guess you missed the sarcasm--the hangers are what the DEMS have been saying this country will revert to, not me.
And I am a SHE who has been faced with medical reasons for having an abortion (which THANK GOD didn't happen) so please don't preach at ME about what I think about babies.
Get a funny bone, please. Sheesh.

42 oppose....large enough to filibuster. Not a great statement on Alito. It could be seen as a great statement on Alito.
Perhaps more Dems would have voted against Alito if he hadn't convinced the American people that the was the right guy for the job ...
smarter and kinder than the Dems who were criticizing him.

Trent Lott on FoxNews saying it's disappointing how the Democrats voted against such a qualified nominee. Partisanship etc. Brings up the contrast with the Ginsberg vote.

To: RedBloodedAmerican
Of course; President Bush needed a nudge back to the right between the Roberts and Alito nominations. Still, despite the Miers near-disaster, the official scorecard will in all likelyhood read 2 conservative SCOTUS Justices and (assuming no other vacancies before January 2009, something I wouldn't bet on) 0 "moderate"-to-lieberal SCOTUS Justices from W.
