Good morning, all.
Join us today for the final victory lap, the vote to "confirm Samuel Alito, of New Jersey, to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court."
It's all over except the final vote tally.
Lots of surprises yesterday at the HUGE vote to impose cloture, so perhaps there are still some surprise votes to come?
Pregnancy is not something you catch like a cold.
There is a choice and it's long before you decide to kill the baby in your womb because you didn't make a good choice.
How soon can someone post a picture of Alito's swearing in?
I'd like to post that on my blog.
Mrs. King died in her sleep last night.....Don't think she'll be sending anything.
I think someone said earlier 1 pm ET but I'm not sure, need confirmation.
Amen
That 42 votes will make the DUmmys think that they are "in the mainstream". It will work BETTER for us for them to continue thinking that.
They just showed JUSTICE Alito walking down the street with his wife, holding hands, hands swinging as they walked away from the camera. Awwwwww. :-)
This guy actually sounds semi sane. Scary.

20. Maybe a little
I understand the judicial philosophy of Alito, I don't agree with it, but I understand it. I do know that nothing he and his brethren can do is unchangable through legislation. FDR dealt with a far more right wing court than we will have, even to the point of trying to stack the deck, and FDR made things work.
If Roe is overturned, we will have to win in the state Legislatures and in the meantime help women get to Progressive states if they need to.
If the Unitary Executive is established, we will have to gain control of Congress (which we have an excellent chance of doing, IF we don't pull a Jim Jones trick here over Alito). Alito et al will give precedence to legislation over raw execuive power grabs.
Guys like Alito are absolutely enamoured with legislative intent, with the Legislature deciding law. If we want to have a progressive society, we have to elect legislatures and executives to do so. If we cannot, then we will have to move or accept that this is a predominantly center-right country and try to carve out progressive enclaves within it.
Almost as unbelievable as Nobody's Senator, Herb Kohl (D-WI) voting for cloture yesterday after voting against Alito in committee (and repeating that no vote on the floor).
Senator's have districts????????
Geez, I learn sumpthin' new at the DUmp. < /sarc >
I agree. Thank God for this confirmation. We could not have gotten a judge that will honor the Constitution and uphold it without His help.
I'm sure George Bush did not think we could get this through either.
We may look back and see that these two new judges were the key to keeping America as America. Can you imagine what direction the country would be going if Kerry or Gore had been president? Makes you very thankful.
How many democrat senators from red states are up for election this year? Other than Bill Nelson and Landrieu?
.
oh gosh...I go confused....confused Mrs. King with Mrs. Alito.....
oh- I feel horrible for such a terrible mistake....[lease forgive me...that must have sounded terrible and in such horrible taste...
This man is going to a powerful voice on the Court. For the constitution.
You'll have to wait for another Justice. All of the justices that voted in favor of that case are still on the Court. O'Connor wrote the dissent.

7. I agree. It will be as bad, or worse.
Within a year, they will be "amending" the Constitution to suit their whims...and the SC will just rubberstamp it all.
The Great American Experiment is over today.
