(CNSNews.com) - Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan has threatened to run for Sen. Dianne Feinstein's (D-Calif.) seat unless Feinstein filibusters Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito.

LOL - I hadn't thought of it that way.
I saw that too - wasn't it her SON who paid the ultimate price?
On the other hand, I don't think I really care... particularly if this is the result!
Double cheers!
Exactly. She's just making money with his sacrifice.
Cindy, even as a political whore you will die broke!
Do you think the bat-brains actually realize there is a GOP in California?
Pittinsky is referring to the supposed grassroot effort the DUmmies have done by faxing and calling Feinstein. I didn't save the thread over there where a figure of half a million faxes had gone through the fax site they've been using to fax everyone. Somewhere on FR there's a thread listing the site and a number of FReepers have utilized the site to fax "No to filibuster" emails.
You need a bleach bath, now.
I used Clorox cleaner and an SOS pad to scrub of the sewage. Gotta say, it's a great way to exfoliate. ;^}
LoL!
While the conventional wisdom is that Feinstein's seat is one of the safer ones up for election in November (especially after the GOP's inept attempt to oust the less popular Barbara Boxer in 2004 - Bill Jones couldn't even raise enough money to run TV ads), she is definitely the more moderate of the two Golden State senators and that hasn't won her many fans on the far left. In fact a ground-swell of opposition to Feinstein has been springing up, and I hope this is the straw that breaks her back, to be honest with you.
--Last year, the organizers of the gay pride parade in San Francisco gave Feinstein it's "Pink Brick" award. It is "a dubious honor bestowed on the public figure who has done the most to damage the gay rights cause. President Bush and talk show host Laura Schlessinger were the previous winners." (Feinstein used to be the mayor of San Francisco no less).
--One liberal blogger says that "Boxer represents that segment of the Democrats who lean toward democracy and who are not inclined to compromise with Republicans on positions that are anti-democracy. Feinstein represents that segment of the Democrats who often are aligned with Republicans on positions that are elitist, authoritarian, imperlialistic, and destructive to low income people." He goes on to call her "Phony Feinstein."
--She is also getting it from the Anti-War Lefties because she actually wants to make sure our troops have supplies. "So it looks like Senator Feinstein will continue to be a shill for the Republicans in their quest to continue pumping hundreds of billions of our dollars into the bottomless, deadly pit called Iraq. We need to get Senator Boxer to punch some sense into Feinstein."
--The Anti-War Left call her a war profiteer as well because her husband owns part of a firm that has got over $800 million in defense contracts in Iraq.
--She is also being attacked for supporting the Flag Protection Amendment.
Will this be enough for a Democratic challenger (if not Cindy, then who?) to step up and take her on for the nomination - or will it drive enough lefties to the Green candidate to help the GOP candidate? That isn't clear yet. If her popularity is truly on the wane with her core Democratic supporters, she might decide to call it quits here soon - she will be 73 years-old On June 22nd.
Check out my post 110. I took one for the team and went to DU for links and comments.
(shudder, shiver!)
>>What a joke. I'm not so sure she would get her own vote.<<
Back in the late fifties, there was a candidate for an alderman position, in the small town I grew up in. On election day, this candidate AND his wife shuttled voters to the polls all day long. When the final vote tally came in, our friendly voter hauler had ONE VOTE!
That sounds like the same kind of get-out-the-vote campaign that a Cindy Sheehan would be capable of.
Is this an April Fools prank? If so, I missed my birthday back in March.
And Feinstein caved to her!
How wonderful!
Feinstein: "Go ahead -- make my day!"
Too weird for words. I did part of my growing up in SF and lived in the Bay Area off and on for years, including during a period when DiFi was Mayor.
She was actually not too bad (although not too good either, because she wasn't aggressive enough on SF's big "homeless" and quality of life problem) and she was by no means a left wing nutcase. She's gotten worse and worse as a senator, however, and now it's hard to remember the DiFi of old.
Still, Cindy would be worse - but the disgusting thing is that I think Cindy would win. People out there (including some of my family members) are just that crazy.
Because as we all know, Casey would have wanted to filibuster Alito.
