A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest! We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.
Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.
received this in my email June 10th, the author is unknown. I am wearing red today and every Friday ~ Billie

Hi Ladies.. sorry not back w/you. VERY late night last night.. great dinner (two weeks in a row at 4 stars.. will take it), theater, and theater party afterward. Luv.. thanks for doll link.. forwarded it around to those with little ones (and my granddaughter)
I prolly wont see puppy until Tuesday.. The next three days are completely covered up. This pup is via my friend John (cop).. one of the men who works for him at the jail is the Shepherd raiser(has many). this is a stray at about 3 or 4 months.. female weighs 30 pounds.. For so many reasons the timing doesn't seem right for a new pooch(esp one that hasn't been trained)... will see. My next couple days are wall to wall commitments & outings. Nice to be busy & keep my mind from floating into depression but also just feel overwhelmed.. I know Toby would love a playmate - live in variety -. We have lots of buddies that he romps with on daily outings here & there.
If she is still unadopted by Tuesday, will try to meet her ...
The play I saw last night was very unique. One person cast. I (and my date)had never heard of it, but the other couple we attended with had seen it before in NYC.
Called
Shame on the Devil: An Audience with Fanny Kemble. by playwright Anne Ludlum. It is about an actress way ahead of her time & from England, theatrical family who comes to US, marries man, who inherits slave plantations in the south & the journey of her social intervention, abolitionist writings, divorce, etc.
Here are a few shots I took after the play. She opened the theater in round up for questions etc. She had done extensive research on Fanny (a True Story) and was very knowledgeable. She is also a writer. Several MAs & does all her own costumes(guess is as well known for her costume work as her acting). ... and this one was great.. the jacket very complex as civil war attire for the elite would reflect)

Sounds like you had a lovely evening, Dolly.
Hope the puppy deal works out for you. Toby would probably love to have a companion, but you don't want it to be too much work having to train her.
You're very welcome for the link. I sure have had fun with it, and know the kids you sent it to will, too. I guess we're all still little girls at heart! :o)..wanting to play dress-up!

Isn't it fun? You'll have to save a few and show us what you have come up with for outfits for yourself. I hate that the animation is lost in transition, but the rest is very entertaining. Maybe you can find a way to animate yours, but so far I have been at a loss, because FR doesn't use java script, which the dolls are written in.

The Choice Is Ours
Set your mind on things above. Colossians 3:2
|
One summer afternoon I climbed a hill near my home. When I reached the top, I stretched out on the grass to relax.
Turning my head to one side, my eyes focused on some blades of grass within inches of my face. This short-range focus not only strained my eyes, but it blurred my view of anything beyond the end of my nose. So I began to adjust my focus, and then the distant city came into view instead. I found I could shift my sights from near to far at will. The choice was mine.
In today's Bible reading, the apostle Paul emphasized that followers of Christ need to keep eternity in view. He wrote, "Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth" (Colossians 3:2). We can choose where to put our focus.
We can succumb to selfish, earthbound thoughts, blurring our view of anything beyond the end of our nose. Or we can gaze through this sinful scene and fix our attention on things above, where Christ is seated at God's right handand we with Him! Then, and only then, are we in a position to see what's most important in life.
Only the mind set on things above can say no to sin and yes to holiness. The choice is ours. Joanie Yoder
Help me to watch and pray,
And on Thyself rely;
And let me ne'er my trust betray,
But press to realms on high. Wesley

Good Saturday morning, Rus! How is that do-it-yourself website coming along. I think it's going to be a hit!
Thanks for our beautiful lesson from God's Word. The only choice we can make with any hope is to become His and choose to remain with Him through eternity.
