LILLE, France, January 26, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A court in Lille handed down its sentence on a French Parliamentarian Tuesday, fining him 3000 Euros and forcing him to pay an additional 6000 Euros to be split between three homosexual activist groups who brought the charges against the MP. Christian Vanneste, a member of the UMP representing the Lille region was found guilty in December on charges of violating a French law barring "hate speech" against homosexuals.
However, Vanneste in the remarks upon which the charges were based and in his defence, was clear that he was not speaking against homosexual persons but homosexual sex acts. In his defence he said "Homosexual acts are socially and morally inferior . . . To describe a behavior which is not beneficial for society is not discriminating against those who make the choice of homosexuality," he said.
The remarks which were found to be offensive were originally made in parliament during the debate on the hate speech law which Vanneste opposed, and more recently repeated to newspapers. In Parliament he said that the idea of making "homophobia" illegal was a "contradiction in terms ... This will bolster the notion that homosexual behaviour has the same value as any other kind of behaviour, when, in fact, it is obvious that it is a threat to the survival of humanity."
The conviction and sentence marks the first politician to be prosecuted under France's homosexual hate speech law that was enacted in December 2004.
Vanneste said the ruling was extremely grave and calls into question freedom of expression. He said he would appeal the decision.
The ruling also impinges on freedom of religion since criminalizing speech against homosexual acts would lead to charges against persons stating the faith positions of major religions.
Comments against homosexual acts are common from Christians who believe, as a matter of faith, that such acts are gravely immoral. Homosexual acts are portrayed in Scripture as a "grave depravity" and an "abomination." Also, the Catechism of the Catholic Church says that that such acts are "intrinsically disordered and contrary to the natural law," adding that "they can never be approved."
Screw the Frogs!
Soon they'll be fined for "failure to commit a daily unnatural act".
Good thing, too. Wouldn't want to be sued.
"The ruling also impinges on freedom of religion since criminalizing speech against homosexual acts would lead to charges against persons stating the faith positions of major religions."
Coming soon to a church or synagogue near you.
"Comments against homosexual acts are common from Christians who believe, as a matter of faith.."
that is pure BS, its not 'just' a matter of faith, its a violation of a natural law of nature that still disgusts the other 97% of the world population
It's simply amazing that the perverted have so "guilted" the rest of us into this p.c. crap. Now the simple expression of truth is considered hateful and a crime, whats next the grimmace, the sideways glance?
Wait a minute, he said those things during a debate regarding the creation of the 'hate speech' law? So, he wasn't breaking law, yet.
Laws regulating speech can be very dangerous.
Frogs ce'st pa, screw au naturalis ce'st assumptionne?
You'll certainly get no argument from me!
Is that something along the lines of "Screw the Frogs"?
It would be a selective censorship, where bashing of Christians, Jews and conservative ideas would of course be encouraged.
The worst 'sins' of all would be speaking against homosexuality, abortion or Islam.
Believe me, it's closer than you think.
Which is why I pray that the Lord will give the elderly Justice Stevens his eternal reward ASAP.
May he RIP ASAP.
It may have started with the French , but its coming soon to a country near you. Hate laws are Bullshiite.
It wont belong before turning down an invitation from a queer will be a hate act.
We have a couple of Christian pastors up before the beak down here for speaking the truth about Islam.
Not John Howard's fault. We have a Labor (socialist) State Government in Victoria.
I wonder what happens when one is offended by some anti-christian speech?
I wonder if it's illegal to be disgusted with Hollywood.
"To describe a behavior which is not beneficial for society is not discriminating against those who make the choice of homosexuality," he said."
This is nothing but legalized extortion. He expresses a perfectly natural and sensible opinion and now must pay thousands, not to the state, but to the perverts. Actually in this case, the state and the perverts are indistinguishable.
"But I don't hate gay cowboys. I simply think cowboys are supposed to be heroic and wear white hats and fight bad guys and kiss their horses, not each other. Gay cowboys are too, too thilly. "
FWIW, I recently learned that the gays in BBM are Sheepherders, NOT COWBOYS. The Hollywood trash obviously doesn't know the difference.
