Note to Admin Moderator: This is the first time I have ever posted anything into breaking news. The reason is that this is the first article ever published that tracks down and states the connection between Judge Alito's family and Mary Jo Kopechne. You may move it back to regular news if you choose. But as of this minute, this article and its subject are known only on Newsbusters.org and here on FR.
To my colleagues on FR: this began as no more than a "friend of a freind" rumor. But after five hours Internet research, I can publish it as accurate. I think you will find it of interest.

Wow...
What a small world it is!
I have skimmed through the thread and FWIW, IMHO, if you have put your name on it, count me among the believers.

It was pretty apparant to me that the tears were from a sense of relief, that FINALLY someone said something accurate about her husband, and while she had steeled herself against the abuse that she knew was going to be spewed by those reprehensible POS on the far left, something as simple as Lindsay Grahm saying that her husband was a good man, sort of pushed her over the edge. But to hear the media's spin, it was Grahm that made her cry.

[...It (The New York Times) should also then apologize for its original article, in which the three reporters presented their personal assumptions as facts on the cause of Mrs. Alitos upset at the hearing.] It was abundantly clear to anyone with eyes that Lindsay Graham's questions were not the cause of Mrs. Alito's tears, except in as much as they provided a moment of needed relief. After days of the most vicious, mean-spirited questioning imaginable, Senator Graham finally at long last treated Judge Alito with respect and decency. It was the relief of this moment that caused Mrs. Alito to cry at this time.
Implying that Senator Graham's question upset Mrs. Alito is like blaming the arrival of the fire truck for the fire. The New York Times knew this, but was doing it's level best to protect the Democrat Senators who had behaved so badly. This paragraph, where the Times blames Senator Graham for Mrs. Alito's upset, should be exhibit #1 in any discussion of bias at the Times, IMHO. It is so out of step with obvious reality that the only explanation is a over-arching political agenda.

John, you'll eventually be forced to publish your research in response to the predictable outcry, so you might as well publish it here, now.

BTW, thanks for looking further into this story. I posted every single thing I knew about it, but it wasn't much. Just the word of Judge Alito's mother, run through two people I trust, before it reached me.
I posted it in the hope that somebody would be able to nail down the connection and I appreciate your work. Despite the fact that some people disagree, I think it could be a significant story if only that it could dampen the Senator's desire to continue down the slander road against Judge Alito.
I know this position is assuming some tiny capacity for shame somewhere in that mass of whisky and fat Ted calls a brain, but it might be under there somewhere.

"Through her husbands family, she learned of their personal friendship with another young woman who was also an only child. This other woman and her family were staunch Catholics. On occasion, they attended the same church in Roseland, New Jersey, as the Alitos, Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, one of only two churches in that town of 5,298. The Alitos live in Caldwell, population 7,584, where this other woman graduated from Caldwell College, probably as a commuter student from her home, rather than a resident student.
From the personal memories of this woman that Mrs. Alito got from her husbands family, and from her own understanding of what it means to be an only child, Mrs. Alito knew of the worst thing that any human being could do to another. She also heard of its impact on the family.
That other womans name was Mary Jo Kopeckne. She was killed by Senator Ted Kennedy, in an auto accident on Chappaquiddick Island, Massachusetts, on 18 July, 1969. That was the other reason for Mrs. Alitos tears."
OH BOY, TEDDY BOY. Now we know why you went to such great pains to "SMEAR" Alito. Stirring some memories, huh? What goes around, comes around...

Once upon a time....before the iron fist of socialism squashed NJ....
NJ was full of communities.
You knew what day of the week it was by sounds and smells.
The sounds of the milkman, the smells of the fresh bread, the ringing bell of the produce man, Louie.
Children would leave the house to go play for hours and not report in to their parents. But the news of what they were doing would travel from porch to porch.
The ripple effect of this tragedy traveled far and wide. From community to community. It was felt and it is remembered.

I checked Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament in Roseland, NJ.
The church does exist, but Roseland is nowhere near Mt. Holly or McGuire AFB.
I think that this story needs further vetting.

Whatever the connection...the fact remains that Kennedy is wetbrain.
Mrs. Alito should not have dignified this neanderthal with her tears...but what's done is done. I empathize.

Nice work C. BB. My impression of Mrs. Alito's tears is when Senator Graham began his apology for the rudeness, the sick attacks on Judge Alito, these were the first kind words the woman had heard all day and it moved her to tears. Perhaps that impression of the event is how I would feel.
By the way and regardless of your Senators party, call the Senate or your Senators now and demand there be no filibuster of Judge Alito.
