Farewell to the GOP, for now at least! (Vanity Rant)

Farewell to the GOP, for now at least!

January 21, 2006

To: RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman

Subject: The return of my 2006 RNC Membership Card

It is with deep regret that I find myself writing this letter to you.

I did in fact receive my 2006 RNC Membership Card. I will not be renewing my membership and I am returning the card to you. If you care about the why, then please read this entire letter.

When I pulled the lever for our current President in the elections of 2000 and 2004, this is what I thought I was voting for.

Limited Government

I am at odds with certain aspects of the Patriot Act with regards to the access of all types of records and data that may be private and none of this governments business.

Very appalling also is the attempt of this government to access Google’s database.

Don’t bring the War on Terror into this, you had all the info in the world to nail the 911 hijackers, but the size of the bureaucracy prevented this government from doing so.

Equally disappointing is the bungling of communication that occurred during Katrina. I am not holding the Federal Government responsible for the suffering, but I am making the point that the more you grow the federal Government the less it will actually be able to accomplish.

A Reduction of Taxes and Simplification of the Tax Code

Although some progress has been made on tax relief overall the tax code as we know it is a mess. Let’s move to the “Fair Tax” specified by Congressman Linder and Libertarian Neil Boortz. This will go along way in helping remove the lobbyist influence over our tax code in addition to trapping a lot of currently uncollected revenue.

Giving in to the WTO with regards to expiring export taxes is a joke. What happened to a level playing field? How can the exporters of domestic services and goods compete when you tie their hands behind their backs? How can you encourage investment state side with policies like that?

Adherence to the US Constitution and Working to Up Hold it’s Values!

U.S. Constitution Excerpt

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

The campaign finance law passed under this administration was an direct assault to our Constitution. This must be reviewed and repealed.

U.S. Constitution Excerpt

To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions.

The illegal immigration problem is at critical mass, but our President refuses to act forcefully in concurrence with our Constitution.

U.S. Constitution Excerpt

Nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

No greater assault on the Constitution and the ownership of private property can be seen than the Kelo decision. Where is the outrage from our supposedly Conservative controlled congress and Senate about this horrendous decision? What about the “Ownership Society” that is so often talked about in the halls of Washington? I cannot even convey the utter disappointment I feel over this.

A Strong Military

I do support the President on Afghanistan and Iraq, but do not support more butter than guns. Being able to afford a couple of hundred state of the art fighter’s is a far cry from where President Ronald Reagan had us a mere 20 years ago.

The Economy

Please, let’s not even go there. The only thing that kept things pointed in what appears to be the correct direction is Alan and the printing press. You want proof? Look at the price of gold and energy; they are the “real” international currency, not the dollar. The current administration and the previous one of Clinton did and are still living off of the economy and military of a real Conservative!

In closing, yes the Administration has done a good job in the Middle East and twenty years from now will probably be seen as a brilliant move in bring democracy there. I just hope we will be as free here at home.

If you need money to fund your mid term elections I suggest you go talk to the people the listed organizations below, because they seem to know what a Conservative should stand for. They are also getting all of my available funds in the future that is if the RNC does not change course.

Minute Man Project

The Gun Owners of America

Aopa

The NRA

Congressman Tancrado

United States Senate Candidate, John Mitchel (To replace the “RINO” Dewine)

Ohio State Gubernatorial Candidate, Kenneth Blackwell

National Right to Life Association

Free Republic.com

P.S. This may not be fact, but it is how I feel. You guys on the hill do not give a rat’s arse about the Constitution or the Son’s or Daughter’s of this Nation. The only thing that seems to matter is the amount of cash that can be jammed in the coffers and pleasing the Socialist One Worlder’s and I for one am sick of it.

Of course not, but that doesn't change the fact that if you didn't vote for Bush in 2004, that gave one more vote up for Kerry.

Your reasoning is flawed.

Please explain how a vote for candidate B or C can add to the total votes for candidate A.

I understand some of what you are feeling, but you have to realize something........there aren't enough conservatives in the country to nominate, much less elect a true right-wing conservative to the office of the Presidency. Would I like the President and Congress to govern more conservatively? YES! I just realize that they can't since the majority of the country doesn't want that. The DIMS are a hardcore never change their vote 35% of the electorate in my opinion. Right-wing conservatives I believe only represent about 20% of the electorate in my opion and the remaining middle is what decides elections. That middle will never swing far one way or the other, but unfortunately they are easily swayed by promise of MONEY. Large government gives out LOTS O MONEY. The sheep will vote for the money every time. There aren't enough of us conservatives at the moment to form a party that has a chance of getting into office IMHO. So, work with what we have or throw it to the DIMS are the only two realistic options at this time. What are you going to do?

Re-read my post before ranting. I never said I expected it. Quite on the contrary.

Maybe his vote won't be missed but, sad to say, there are countless thousands out there who are not FREEPERS (so you won't hear from them here) but who vote solid Republican and are fed up with the fact that we have had complete control of both Houses of Congress and the White House for five years and not too much has changed. But, having said that......

I'll still vote GOP rather than try to "send a message" because people who send a message are found in the "Loss" Column. Didn't we learn anything from the 1992 election when the Ross Perot votes gave us eight years of Bill and Hill?

And specifically, what is it about CAFTA that makes you want a Democrat for the next president?

When I said you were wrong before, I should have made clear who exactly, was wrong about exactly what. In this case, it is you yourself who is wrong again, about my wanting a Democrat for the next President. Nothing could be further from the truth, and I opinted out the falicy of that statement in an earlier post.

Specifically, all of CAFTA, but the fact that it harms our sovreignty, subverts our Constitution, harms our national economy, our citizen's jobs, and a whole lot more as you will find as it unfolds in time.

Furthermore, the way in which CAFTA was rammed down our throats agains our wishes (I and many others fought vociferously against it). Technically, we won! the fight against CAFTA, but the Republican House broke it own rules and kept the voting open for far longer than was legal while the White House and Republican leadership bullied the last remaining hold-outs until it barely passed by a mere two vote margin.

When you begin from a position of compromise, you have already conceded a portion of your ground, and are doomed to failure.

There once was a man from Nantucket.

Please, let’s keep it clean.

A young engine-driver called Hunt
Once took out his engine to shunt,
Saw a runaway truck,
And by shouting out, ‘Duck!’
Saved the life of the fellow in front.

you would think, from reading this thread and others like it, that not one person in the GOP would win (as if FR has a big sway one way or the other). It doesn't and I would expect the GOP retain the majorities in both houses...

The rest of this is just pure hyperbole and just straight BS.

Sorry, I can't wait to see it unfold. I would like to know now. Every trade agreement we have entered into has been badmouthed. Some feel that trade and international relations/defense have nothing to do with each other. Some feel that we can stand on our own economy and can simply set out our requirements for the rest of the world. Nothing could be further from the truth. Yes, the world economy affects American jobs. Been happening long before CAFTA. Chinese imports dwarf anything CAFTA could ever do. We conservatives talk about capitalism as if it were the private domain of the US. We have been exporting capitalism for a long time. Now much of the rest of the world is ready to play the same game we do.

Specifically, how does CAFTA subvert the Constitution and endanger our sovereignty?

One, I never said who could or could not be on this sight.

Two, my politics lean more toward the principles that this site was founded on. Not just following the heard of into the abyss.

Three, I am acutely dyslexic, so excuse the SH&^%$ out of me if I don't sound and speak like all the professional keyboard pounder’s. I am to busy programming several million dollars of CnC machinery to really care about a dangling participle.

Four, from the looks of it I have accomplished my goal upsetting the apple cart and encouraging some open debate as to where the GOP is headed. Frankly I am a little worried. I will no longer send money to the "just get along party" Can't stand the Dem's, but will hold they nose if McCain gets the nod.

Five, If you cannot figure out what I am upset about by my rant there is no discussion. Many others seem to get it!

Some feel that trade and international relations/defense have nothing to do with each other.I don't know who those people are.

The REAL problem with our so-called "trade" agreements is that they are primarily NOT,/b> about trade, they just use that term to confuse everyone.

To (nearly) quote Henry Kissinger: "..(NAFTA) is not about trade but represents the architecture of a New World Order"

You people who still think it is about "trade" are simply making it easy for them to get those agreements rammed through.

I spent well over a year posting on FR about CAFTA before it was passed, and I was not alone in doing so. We said many times what the real dangers were, and all we got was flamed.

As to our sovreignty, how could it not have an affect, given we have already seen the effects of NAFTA and the WTO in dictating to our congress and the President the resolution of trade issues with our "partners".

CAFTA also effectively destroys our borders in the provision that grants "rights" to Central American residents who wish to travel north for jobs.

And of course, CAFTA is the opening salvo in the push for the FTAA, coming to a hemisphere near you real soon.

One, I never said who could or could not be on this sight.

Then, in the future, when you get upset over questions you can't answer, perhaps you will refrain from referring to the purpose of the site and in jimrob's statements about it.

Two, my politics lean more toward the principles that this site was founded on. Not just following the heard of into the abyss.

This site also encourages free exchange of ideas, and does not discourage the challenging of those whose ideas appear to conflict with reality. When necessary, the mods take care of business.

Three, I am acutely dyslexic, so excuse the SH&^%$ out of me if I don't sound and speak like all the professional keyboard pounder’s. I am to busy programming several million dollars of CnC machinery to really care about a dangling participle.

Take care with that programming...

Four, from the looks of it I have accomplished my goal upsetting the apple cart and encouraging some open debate as to where the GOP is headed.

That debate has been going on here since the board started.

Five, If you cannot figure out what I am upset about by my rant there is no discussion. Many others seem to get it!

I'm a little slow. I keep trying to figure out why you are so upset since you voted for W in '04. I have asked you several times what he has done, and all you have referred to is things he did before you voted for him in '04. Perhaps you can clarify so I can figure out why you are so upset.

I'll leave the rest of your comments to others, but I will comment on your remarks regarding the economy. Alan and the Fed are not keeping the economy pointed in the right direction. What dug the economy out of recession (which would have become much worse) were the tax cuts of May 2003, engineered by the Republican-led House and signed by President Bush. Alan, on the other hand, has largely repealed those tax cuts by raising interest rates on medium and small businesses by more than $100 billion/year. The rate hikes have caused a weaker dollar, purposely slowing the economy to hurt workers and wages, all in the mistaken belief that doing so will "fight inflation." In fact, the slowing economy has caused inflation by reducing demand for the dollar.
