**** Again the Democrats show how easy it is for them to make fools of themselves. The hearings on Alito were a disgrace. The attempt to slash and burn the reputation of a fine judge and a good and gentle man was pathetic, to say the least. Sens. Kennedy, Chuck Schumer and Joseph Biden came across as spoiled kids having a tantrum for not getting their way. Frank Baldino Hamden, Conn.

****It was interesting to watch Kennedy use, in the guilt-by-association tradition of McCarthyism, Alito's long-ago membership in Concerned Alumni of Princeton to prove he is a racist. Kennedy supports the re-election of Sen. Robert Byrd, a former KKK member who holds the dubious distinction of being the only senator to have voted against both of the only two black justices on the U.S. Supreme Court. Kennedy also belonged to the all-male Owl social club at Harvard that refused to admit women until it was forced to do so in the 1980s. The Post has been moving to the left, but maybe they've decided that they've gone far enough.

These are the kind of frank comments that you see on the internet, but I didn't expect to read them in a major newspaper, at least not about a Democrat belonging to the sainted Kennedy family. Good for them for publishing some real letters.
