DeLay Will Quit Leadership Post in House

By DAVID ESPO AP Special Correspondent

WASHINGTON

Embattled Rep. Tom DeLay decided Saturday to give up his post as House majority leader, clearing the way for new leadership elections among House Republicans eager to shed the taint of scandal, two officials said.

These officials said DeLay, R-Texas, was preparing a letter informing fellow House Republicans of his decision. These officials spoke on condition of anonymity, saying they did not want to pre-empt the formal announcement.

DeLay is battling campaign finance charges in Texas and was forced to step aside temporarily as majority leader last fall after he was charged in his home state. He has consistently maintained his innocence and said he intended to resume his leadership post once cleared.

Unfortunately for DeLay......does anyone remember another Tom except the clients he and his wife lobby for in DC?

I haven't seen a list....seems they would be proud to have their names out there, though. Mission accomplished.

Sadly, it really wasn't necessary. DeLay would have done the right thing and resign on his own without the back stabbers.

Politics is soooo ugly

And the alternative is? Half this country doesn't even bother to vote with the other half fairly well divided. Sure there are more conservatives than liberals in this county, but they will not, can not, whatever, be bothered. The liberals remain the shrillest so they trump.

Something obviously made him suddenly decide to quit the post.

If he did do something bad with the Abramoff thing, I hope he literally gets the chair.

He will have severely hurt the GOP's chances in 2006 by his actions if he did anything unethical.

I think DeLay is playing for keeps, long run.

Me too. I think Earle and the rest will rue the day they tried to 'off' the Exterminator. He's had lots of experience killing rats.

I believe that Flake was once the director or some kind of official of the libertarian Goldwater Institute in Phoenix.

That would account for his back stabbing of Tom Delay and his open borders approach. Libertarians are more "me myself and I" centered so think screw Tom Delay if it messes up my re-election.  And one current of libertarian thought is for open borders. The Wall Street Journal editorial board for example

THIS IS CRAP!!!!!!!! WE NEED TO CLEAN HOUSE AND GET RID OF THE RINOS!!!!!! Delay should STAY as Leader.

There were only 15 Republicans signing against him on this leadership post. IT TAKES 60 TO EVEN PUSH IT TO PARTY CONFERENCE!!!!!!

THE REPUBLICAN PARTY WILL NO BE RUN BY RINOS....AND CONSERVATIVES WILL HAVE NOBODY TO TURN TO.

DELAY did more for this party and its agenda than anybody...ever!!!!

Every RINO who pushed for this should be voted out of office!!!!!

The minute Delay clears his name.....there needs to be a push to have him voted in as Majority leader again!.

Blunt has already shown himself to be a candyass.

WE SHOULD JUST SELL THE STATE OF N.H. to the french! The Dems and RINOS...which is all that state has...would not mind one bit.
